[NPL] NetWhistle launches monitoring service
Fairfax, Virginia, April 25, 1999-NetWhistle.com, a Virginia-based Internet network monitoring service provider, announced today its official launch of http://www.netwhistle.com, a web-based network monitoring service that alerts owners of e-commerce web sites about the uptime/downtime status of their network. While larger Internet retailers, such as amazon.com, ebay.com and cdnow.com, posses in-house hosting and monitoring capabilities, smaller companies who critically rely on their e-commerce sales have traditionally outsourced the hosting to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as UUNET, Exodus, GTE Internetworking, Sprint, Savvis, Level 3, Qwest, etc. Since most ISPs do not notify the site owner when its network is down, smaller companies often don't know whether or not their site is available to the Internet. NetWhistle.com will monitor web site performance and notify webmasters via email or pager FREE of charge when their web site is down, allowing them to identify technical...

[NPL] ASCII Converter 1.3
From: Marco Bambini (marco@spiderlink.it) Subject: ANNOUNCE: ASCII Converter 1.3 What is Ascii Converter? ASCII converter is a simple "drag and drop" application that converts text files from Windows to Macintosh and vice versa. MacOS and Windows use two different ASCII tables (a way to represent the characters) so when you open a Windows text file with a Mac application all the special characters (like: ,,,,, etc.) are misinterpreted. ASCII converter fixes this drawback and enables you to correctly read the text. With this version (1.3) you can choose the creator of the converted file and you can skip the CR/LF translation during the conversion (see the ReadMe file for more information). For more information, or to download a free copy, visit http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Network/7185 (software section). Thank you for your time, Marco Bambini

From: Marco Bambini (marco@spiderlink.it) Subject: ANNOUNCE: OpenWorld 2.0 What is OpenWorld? OpenWorld is a plug-in for any HTTP server compatible with the W*API 1.1 (like WebSTAR, AppleShare IP, WebTen or Quid Pro Quo). It adds server side include capabilities to your server and also allows you to extend the HTML language by writing your own tags in C, in AppleScript or in Perl so you can report every kind of dynamic information in your pages. Why is so powerful? You can create many kinds of custom plug-ins. You can write plug-ins using the C language by following the simple API provided in the documentation and you can also write plug-ins using AppleScript, saving them as a compiled script if you don't need dynamic information from the server or as an uncompiled script (text) if you do need such dynamic information. In addition to this, OpenWorld provides a number of internal commands (that you can write directly into the HTML pages) which are described in the guide. Remember that...
