Touchscreen iMac under development?

According to DigiTimes, Sintek Photronics has sent samples of projected capacitive touch panels to Apple for a touchscreen iMac.

Citing industry sources, DigiTimes claims that Sintek Photronics has a “good chance” of becoming a supplier for a touchscreen iMac. The Taiwanese publication describes the basic composition of such touchscreen panels:

The new iMac is rumored to have a good vertical and horizontal viewing angle, and its projected capacitive touch panel will adopt a one-glass solution, which integrates the touch sensor and cover glass, to reduce thickness and weight.

LOOPRumors received information back in June that Apple was planning to develop a hybrid OS, equipped with both Mac OS X and a touch interface for iOS, into its next iMac.

Apple to launch seven stores on Saturday.

Apple will open up a record seven stores this Saturday, one in the United States, one in China, and five in Western Europe.

The company’s first store in Spokane, Washington is located in the River Park Square shopping center on West Main avenue. This store will be Apple’s sixth in the state of Washington.

On the same day, Apple will its fourth store in Germany in Oberhausen’s CentrO shopping center, a fourth Italian store in Bergamo, and a fifth French store in Vélizy-Villacoublay.

The company is also adding a UK store in Gateshead, only three miles away from its Newcastle-upon-Tyne store and an second store in Shanghai.

Apple shares hit new all-time intraday high.

Shares of Apple, Inc. today soared $7.86 (2.85%), to reach a new all-time closing high of $283.23.

Trading volume was average at 21,631,047. Apple shares last set an all-time closing high on September 16, 2010 when the price hit $276.57 and the all-time intraday price is $279.01 set on June 21, 2010. Apple’s 52-week low is $180.70.

Market value for the California-based company is currently $258.75 billion. Only Exxon Mobil surpasses Apple in market value whereas Microsoft, Berkshire-Hathaway, and Walmart, respectively, follow Apple among top U.S. publicly-traded companies.

Apple offers refurbished iPads.

For the first time since the iPad‘s launch in early April, Apple is offering the touchscreen tablet refurbished $50 less than the full price.

Only refurbished Wi-Fi only iPad models are available presently. The 16GB model is selling for $449, the 32GB model for $549, and the 64GB model for $649.

The refurbished iPad models come with Apple’s one-year limited warranty and the option to purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan.
