Water's Edge Software Maintains Commitment to Macintosh Developers

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--May 12, 1999--Responding to Metrowerks' recent
"open letter to [its] customers" communique, Water's Edge Software is
reaffirming its long-standing and on-going commitment to Macintosh
developers. Just days ago, Metrowerks Inc., the leading manufacturer
of Macintosh compilers, announced that they plan to focus efforts on
their most popular languages, C, C++ and Java. This decision has
caused an uproar amongst the less numerous, but fiercely devoted
ranks of Pascal developers, many of who feel their language of choice
is being abandoned by Metrowerks.

Water's Edge Software, creators of the award-winning Tools Plus
libraries + framework, reiterated that they remain committed to
Macintosh developers, and to all three of the most popular
programming languages for applications and plug-ins, those being C,
C++ and Pascal.

"There is a lot of excitement about Java," said Water's Edge
president, Steve Makohin, "but when it comes to building real-world
applications, just about every app you have ever run on your Mac has
been written in C, C++ or Pascal. Our strength is in providing rapid
development tools for those languages."

In their letter, Metrowerks outline a plan in which they will
initially upgrade their PowerPC Pascal compilers to resolve a number
of long-standing issues. A later upgrade will let the PowerPC Pascal
compiler generate Carbon compliant code (which will allow the
creation of "pure" Mac OS X applications). After that, Metrowerks
does not plan to upgrade the Pascal development environment to
parallel their C/C++ environment.

In spite of this announcement, Water's Edge Software's Tools Plus
libraries + framework will continue to support Pascal in addition to
the more popular C and C++ languages. "We have no plans to pull back
support" stated Makohin. "We don't feel that Metrowerks' new
direction will negatively impact the development or delivery of our
products, including those that support Pascal."

Makohin also added that Metrowerks' Pascal compilers, as they are
today, are still potent development tools for those who prefer to
code in Pascal. This fact, along with the ability to generate Carbon
compliant code, means that CodeWarrior Pascal will remain a useful
tool for years to come.

Water's Edge took this opportunity to pre-announce Tools Plus Pro 5,
scheduled for release later in May. Tools Plus Pro 5 has been
optimized for Mac OS 8.6, but continues to support older versions of
Mac OS going as far back as System 6. Amongst the new features are
support for Apple Events, and extended "theme" support for the
Appearance Manager.

About Tools Plus:

Tools Plus libraries + framework was rated "4 1/2 mice" by Macworld
magazine, honored as a Macworld/MacTech Editors' Choice Awards
finalist for "Best Rapid-Development Tool," and critically acclaimed
in various publications. It first empowered programmers in 1992 by
providing an effective alternative to "code generators," and it
continues to be instrumental in helping developers with varying
skills quickly create polished, professional-level applications and
plug-ins.
