I am consulting for a firm that owns an IBM System/34.
It looks ancient and I can't find any documentation on
it, such as speed, capacity, data about the operating
system. The firm doesn't plan to upgrade right now and
I'm trying to figure out what the implications are of
the operating system hitting the millenium, not to mention
the old programs they have. Can anybody out there help?

I have recieved a computer that I am trying to figure out.
It has a bus similay to a VL bus except that the third part, (the loscal bus) is moved two inches away from the 16-bit AT bus, and it has about 16 extra connections. there two boards in it, both of which connect to this modified bus. one had a CPU marked I386 DX, and a similar but slightly smaller socket next to it that is empty, (co processor?) This same board also has 4 slots for memory. The other board connects to all three sections and has 8 memory slots.
the motherboard has no memory amd no cpu slot. there are 2 floppy controllers and one hdd controller on the MB. I got it with a tape drive and two floppy drives (one of each size).
Any ideas, suggestions please e-mail me.

Ok, I purchased an old laptop... it's a 486 with 4mb of RAM, and didn't come with a battery.. only the adaptor. I would like to purchase a battery and other parts (more RAM, modem, etc..) but the only info on this laptop I have is the word "Pioneer" written on top. There is no model number, manufacturer, or reg. number on the machine. It is not produced by Pioneer Electronics, as the logo beside the name is not their logo (an Ohm symbol), but instead a circle with a "heartbeat" symbol in it. Can anyone help me find documentation, parts, *anything* for this machine? It would be greatly appreciated.

I have a CompuAdd 486DLC computer with an unusual memory setup. 0 Bank of a 72 pin and 2 banks of 30 pin Simms sockets. Only trouble is I can't find memory to fit it. I have tried 3 different types of memory and none worked.
I put in 2 different manufacturers of 72 pin 4 X 36 72 pin Simms - neither worked. Then tried installing 4 4meg simms in the 30 pin. That did not work either. All were parity. Anyone who has an answer out there let me know. I would like to bring it up to at least 24. Right now I have a 8 meg Simm in the 72 pin and 4 1meg Simms in the 30 pin sockets so I now have 12. That is what it came with.

Contrary to today's market, in which Intel clones are cheaper and slower alternatives, the NEC V20 was a FASTER alternative to the 8088. Replacing a V20 with an 8088 would be a downgrade, not an upgrade. To give you a scale, at the same clock speed, the V20 was as much faster than the 8088 as a Pentium is faster than a 486. In addition, the V20 had a special mode in which it could natively run 8080 code (and therefore CP/M).

You may wonder why, then, the V20 wasn't more ubiquitous, the answer is bad system software design. At the time, it was typical for BIOS code to time I/O operations based on the speed of CPU instructions. For example, some systems looped a fixed number of times between sending the disk controller a command and reading the status. With the V20, these loops would be significantly faster so that when the CPU read the status from the disk controller, the information was occasionally not ready and the system would crash. Evidently, those systems that shipped with V20s were designed to avoid these problems. It's to IBM's credit that the original PC/XT could handle a V20; many clones could not.

I have a 486 VLB motherboard that I need the jumper settings for to upgrade the CPU. I have put a DX33 in, but it still has a clock speed of 25MHz. The only ID is "OPTI-495SLC" followed by "3406 Rev 1.1" and of course "Made in Taiwan"

I recently got windows 3.1 working on my Toshiba T1600,
unfortunately, 1 meg(or 840k) isn't enough to run anything!

I have a Palm VL-BUS rev combination video & I/O card
The video chip is a Cirrus Logic CL-GD5426 and the IDE chip says APPIAN ADI2 Local Bus IDE. Does anyone have instruction manual for jumper settings for this card and Win95 drivers if possible as it wont work with default drivers or C/L drivers in Win95.

NEED HELP! I have a 2 IBM ValuPoint 486sx's. One will not recognize or run the floppy but will run its hard drive. The other will not recognize add-on cards such as a modem but the floppy and the HD run OK. There are no jumpers to change that I can find that would help. The system BIOS does not have any space for the add-ons either. Any help would be greatly appreciaated, especially for adding the modem.

just got offered a "minolta(?)" pc. Before I spend the time to go look at it, is there such a thing? If so, is it worth more than scrap prices?

I have just obtained a board purported to be a "Hydra" board. This board is supposed to be a Mac Emulator for the PC.

It is an 8-bit board, full length with a daughter card with RAM. It has a 9 pin connector on the back which looks as if it might be a Video Connector.

The boards markings claim it is from Verticom, Inc. A search on the web doesn't turn anything up.

If someone has the software and documentation, I'd like to make arrangements to get a copy from you.

I have 2 Tandy 1400HD's, with blown power supplies. the one has an NEC V20 4/8 MHz processor with an 8087-2 coprocessor. The other has an actual Intel 8088 chip in it (4 or 8 MHz). I looked up the computer on Tandy's support line, and it says that they were shipped with the V20. I know that the processor was never replaced, because the case was never even oprened. When the power supply blew, I was given the computer. Does anyone know if it was an option to get the Intel 8088 in place of the NEC V20? Does anyone else have a 1400 with an actual Intel 8088 chip in it? Is this computer possibly worth more (I doubt it)?

I have Compaq Prolinea 386SX/25 (1993). Intitially
it was 4Mb PC but now 10Mb - I replaced a pair of 1Mb (30pins)
to 4Mb. The 0 bank don't let be replaced and I would like
to learn from somebody, why?
Another question - it is possible to replace 386SX in the same
"nest" with cyrix or alike processor?

I have an IBM PS/2 L40sx laptop (386sx-20). It has an internal 2400bps modem. When I run the reference disk, it detetcs the modem on COM B, and tests it as O.K. No matter what I do. I can't get it to be recognised out of the diagnostics program. I DO have it turned on in the BIOS setup. I'm trying to use it with NetTamer, a DOS, Text-based browser. Do I need a special driver for it, or can someone tell me the initialization string (you can enter it in NetTamer).

I have a a friend tha has a Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 600C laptop that has a broken LCD display.
I called HP directly to see how much it will cost to replace the display.
They gave me a rather high price.

Mac SE SuperDrive computer, just purchased, has a hardware password. Anyone know if there is a key combo, jumper, software fix or whatever to bypass this since contacting the last owner is not an option?

The gateway has two processors: a 486 sx33 and a 486 sx25. Both are in working condition but I think there is something work with the power supply. I has no ram but I do have a 16 meg chip that I am willing to trade. Im am very sure that it can be fixed. Also has no mouse, keyboard, or monitor. The NEC is a 386 nonremovable processor. It works like a charm. I don't how much ram it has in it but it has alot of simms. I think they are either 256k chips or 1 meg chips. It has eight of them. I also have a bag of potporri memory chips that all work but I don't know there size. I think that it has a 120 meg harddrive in it. It has a 5.25 floppy and a 3.5 floppy in it. I think that is about it. Oh yeah, the gateway also has an internal 14.4 modem that works. If you have any more questions just ask.

I have a weird graphic card by Sanyo with an extra input or output on an RCA socket, it's marked as a SAT-220D, no FCC data and two numbers on the board, 4226974200 in white, embossed, and, T047928 C, printed. It also has an EPROM of some sort. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Opps! I found the motherboard to the IBM 5151 I stripped! Has five 8 bit slots, AMD 8088 4.77 Mhz CPU, 256KB of memory. I'll add it to the items I posted previously. Basically, pay for the postage and it's your!

Need to know how (if possible) to load NT4 on Compaq Presario 4402.
They do not plan to support newer OS's on the Presario series.

Looking for working Widget Hard drive for Lisa- mine finally bit the dust. I have disk images (somewhere) for Lisa 7/7, Lisa Pascal workshop, and SCO Xenix for Lisa. Interested in other Lisa bits as well. Perhaps we can work something out .

Have an IBM PCJr Color Display in my way made especially for the PCJr and has the original rectangualr box plug on it rather than the defacto standard 9 or hd15 pin d-sub. Since I'm seeing a lot of PCJr's getting picked up, maybe someone might be interetsed in this? Theres' a few PCJr parts dealers still out there asking $189 for these "refurbished" (they turn them on and wipe them off). Is this stupid or what? I'd like to get my $35 back out of it or trade for other generic PC parts. Works great, looks good.

I know this may sound silly, but is there any way to put a 720 MB hard drive from a Toshiba 200CDS laptop into an IBM PS/2 L40sx Laptop? It currently has a 60 MB HD, doublespaced 3 times, and almost half of the sectors in it are bad, leaving about 35 total MB, before compression. If I can't put that drive in it, what's the biggest drive (I'd like over 100MB) that can be put in it, and where could I get one of these drives??

i have put a KINGSTON turbo chip inside the machine and it is surposed
to running the equvelent of a P75 but it loads very slow!
does graphics encredibly slow! and everything else slow!
the chip does not seem to have made a great deal of difference

I have an old motherbord -- an Everex EV-18123, it has alot of built-in stuff, including IDE, Floppy, 2 serial, 1 Parallel and a few others. I don't quit know if it has anything else because the board is not marked. It has 3 16-pin connectors that I don't know what they do. There is a chip on it marked AVGA, so I think one of them is a built-in VGA adapter. If anyone has any information on this board, please let me know.

I have a CompuAdd 325tx and just added a modem from another 325tx I bought for parts. All my software recognizes the modem, but none will initialize with it. I assigned the COM port properly in setup, but still can't get the modem to work. Port testing tels me the modem is there. Anybody have any suggestions?

I have several OLD KAYPRO CP/M'S that I am trying to fix up but I am having trouble with the disk drives not working right.
Also I have an old Zenith Data Systems 286 Computer. I just reformated the hard disk and put DOS 6.22 on it but lost my old program for the use of the mouse. If any one has an old mouse program or can tell me how to get the Logitech 3.41 mouse program to stay installed please let me know.

I have an OCTEK PVGA1D graphics card. I have downloaded the software drivers from OCTEK. They do not give any information on the QTY 6 DIP switches on the back of the card. Has anyone got the settings for these switches?

Someone game me a IBM 386 laptop to sell for $200.00. It has a black and white monitor, with 16 ram and I think a very small harddrive, because I locked it up putting win3.0 version on it. So, how do you unlock it? It will boot up to the dos shell and freeze. Isn't there a way to stop it from going to the dos shell during boot up by hitting f10 or something? Then couldn't I delete from there and make some room on the harddrive to correct this thing? Dos isn't my specialty, I like windows better, well I undersatnd win better. What do you suggest? Please help, I am desperiate. Also do you think $200 is an unreasonably price for the machine? It has a mouse and the battery that comes with it needs replacing, it will not hold a charge long. I have an old modem with no visible FCC ID number. The only markings are the words "Bright Modem", A mfgr's symbol that looks like "ABA"and a serial # of the circuit board, 002-00025 Rev B+ copyright 1986. Any idea who made it? The 9332-200 mentioned below is a disk drive unit, part of an AS/400 racj mount mincomputer, and gets it's power from same...in case anyone wanted to know.

I have a JVC RLL Hard disk. It worked in an Epson portable (1989) whose motherboard is "dead".
How recovering the data wich are in the hard disk? (The disk is OK).
The disk is a 20MB JVC JD-3824LOYO. With a 26 pins connection (power supply included).

I've just been given a HUGE IBM computer, model 9332 200.
I can't find any information on it at all except for a vague
reference to it that suggests that it might be a "minicomputer"
or mainframe computer. IBM technical support was less than
helpful, suggesting that I try their 1-900 number, which I
wasn't in the mood to try without knowing if they'll be any
help. I eventually found my way here while looking for sites
specialising in vintage, classic, antique, and obsolete
computers.

This machine seems to have been built before 1986, and weighs
a LOT more than I do. It didn't come with a monitor or a
keyboard for it's strange ports- I've never seen anything
like them and don't believe it will be easy to find hardware
that is compatible with this monster. I suspect that it
probably had one or more terminals of some sort that plugged
into it.

I've never plugged the machine in and turned it on, but it
seems to be in pretty good condition and I believe it will
work. I opened up the case, hoping to find a hard drive
which I could plug into my IBM PS/2 50 (and secretly hoping
that it may even contain several hard drives), and was shocked
to discover a hard drive that is bigger than the average
modern notebook computer inside. Now I REALLY want to get
this thing running just to see what in the world is in this
machine. Interestingly, several plug in cards seemed to
have been hand-built! The cardslots didn't look very familiar,
either, for that matter.

What I'm wanting to know is where I can find more information,
hopefully even an owner's or technical manual of some sort,
and some hardware/parts for it. I might consider selling
this thing if I like the price, but I'd really hate to part
with it... I must warn anyone interested that the shipping
and handling will almost certainly be a killer.

Any information, or any comments at all about this thing will
be greatly appreciated. Right now it's a complete mystery
to me!!!

I still have a bunch of old and obsolete computer equipment that I'm looking to seel in a whole package for $800. I have a 7 yr old 286 clone...I installed a 3.5" drive on it to share files w/ another computer. Drive worked ok for awhile...then started getting "unable to find sector" error....now I get "General Fault Reading Drive B" error...I checked all the connections, and even put in a brand new drive...get the general fault error on the new drive too. There are not any jumpers on the 3.5 drive...though there are on the 5 1/4 that cmae w/ the computer. I have changed the BIOS settings to show a 3.5" 1.44mb drive in the B slot. I has no ram but I do have a 16 meg chip that I am willing to trade. Im am very sure that it can be fixed. Also has no mouse, keyboard, or monitor. The NEC is a 386 nonremovable processor. It works like a charm. I don't how much ram it has in it but it has alot of simms. I think they are either 256k chips or 1 meg chips. It has eight of them. I also have a bag of potporri memory chips that all work but I don't know there size. I think that it has a 120 meg harddrive in it. It has a 5.25 floppy and a 3.5 floppy in it. I think that is about it. Oh yeah, the gateway also has an internal 14.4 modem that works. If you have any more questions just ask.

I have a TRS80 Model 1 in very good condition and want to know how much it might be worth.

Ok, this is a repost since the original responder had to back out for whatever reason...

I have some excess Zenith Z248 equipment to get out of my way and would prefer a trade of other equipment for these..

I have two ZDS ZWS 248's, these are the planar units that the 286-12 processor board plugs into. Complete main units with the planar board, power supply, cpu board, I/O board HDD/floppy controller (MFM), MDA video card, drive bay inserts, etc. You need to add drives and it will take any drive from 360k to 1.44m. It takes all sorts of MFM hard drives as well and can probably accomodate an SCSI or ESDI in place of the MFM controller which will allow larger drive types. 512k on the cpu card. They have two open 5.25" bays, one has a filler that can be removed.
There's also another identical unit without a power supply. It's a case, planar board, drive bay inserts, 2 I/O boards. Mostly for parts or use to build up with parts you find elsewhere.

I need $25 plus shipping for ALL THREE (as a package) or will trade for something that I can use such as cdroms, hard drives, SIMMs, microchannel adapters,etc, etc, etc.... I would really like to get a couple 2X or higher SCSI cdrom drives, caddy type or tray load or larger SCSI hard drives whether full, half, 5.25 or 3.5"...

Drop me a line if interested. I also have two ZDS memory cards that work on these to bring the 512k up past 1024k that I would like $10 each or trade for. They are not open to sale/trade until the other units are gone and the new owner decides they don't want them.

I've installed a new IDE controller with 2 serial ports in my old GATEWAY 2000 computer.
(I've never had problems before with other board before )
The only difference between the new and previous controllers I've noticed is the different connector
numbering. Usually on the left of the serial connectore there are the digits 1 2. On the new board the numbers are 1 6.
I tried remapping the connections and changed the connection in my modem cable, but without success.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone help me with any information on a Digital computer lab Model H-500? It is late 1960's vintage, in a shadow box-like wooden frame, and uses patchcords to connect various gates, etc., with an adjustable clock speed. I'm trying to help a friend upgrade an old laptop he acquired at a garage sale. It is a NoteStar NP-913. Ya, I know, I've never heard of it either. But if anyone has, it's a 386sx with 1.6MB ram and 100mb HD. I'm trying to find out how to add memory, What type of chips it uses and how much can be added. So far I've actually managed to open it up and find the memory banks under the keyboard. But there are no markings visible on the single chips which plug in along one edge with wires. They look more like resistors except for the number of wires sticking out. Can anyone help?

I have what is a very interesting item, A Sun-1/100U (which has been upgraded to a Sun-2 with a 68010 board) With a 1/4 and 1/2" tape drives, 2X HDD
s loads of 1/2" inch tapes etc, as well as color frame buffer, 7MB ram etc. I also have it's SunOS 3.2 boot tape set.
The thing is the damn thing won't boot off the tapes, just comes up with "96A0 Error" and retenses the tape! The HDD is full of bad sectors , it started once and booted SunOS 3.2 but needs to be reformatted/replaced which means starting from the tapes, any ideas??

I have a Magnavox HeadStart 500 and I was wondering what some of the original system specs were. I bought it from a friend who didn't know anything bout it, but it has win 3.1. Just picked up a copy of "Guide to Personal Computing" published by Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC). Copyright date is 1982.

This appears to be a sales brochure for their early personal computers (i.e., "pc's", not "PC's"). It covers the Rainbow 100 8088/Z-80 hybrid, the DECmate II "secretarial" machine, and the Professional 325 and 350 (which used the PDP-11 'minicomputer" processor), along with some of the accessories (printers, etc.).

It's not a user manual, but it does have pretty decent product descriptions and some basic specifications. It's 180 pages long and is about 5.5" x 8.5", softcover.

I only paid a dollar for it, and I'll let it go for same, plus shipping, if there are any literature collectors or DEC fans that want it.

-IBM PS/2 Model 30-286. 1MB RAM, 20 MB HDD, 1.44 MB floppy, on-board VGA. Has Hercules mono card w/ monitor. PS/2 mouse, Win 3.1, a few games. just add a keyboard.

-IBM Model 30-286. Motherboard, case, and floppy (1.44 meg) only. No RAM, HD, mouse, keyboard, or power supply. Board IS good.

-IBM 14" XGA monitor. Works great w/XGA/2 vid adapter (don't have adapter).

-Epson 14" VGA monitor. Works great. good color, good condition

The manufacturers maximum hard drive for this model was
209 meg. I hear it can be difficult running certain drives on this model. Is it possible to install a 528 meg drive, and if so,

I have a Zeos Freestyle 486SL-25 with 4MB ram. I would like to explore

2 gateway 486's both in working condition ( execpt for the power supply,ram,mouse,keyboard, and monitor) I have a 16meg (i think) chip to trade. ( Its been static fried and not even sure it fits these machines) I am sure they can be fixed. ( but for some reason I can't get them working)
The NEC has a lot of ram and a hard disk. I don't know the size of either but it works like a charm.( I am to stupid to run chkdsk or mem to find out the size)
Oh yeah I am still trying to sell my extreamly rare version of dos 6. It comes with an inaccurate history about it.

In addition to trading computer items and cash for things I have and you need, I also am in need of generic bench test equipment such as signal generators, frequency counters, decade resistor boxes, capacitance testers, etc. I have three oscilloscopes (1 Tek 561A is for sale BTW) so I may consider trading for one but it depends on the type and it's usefulness. I'm getting swamped in machines, esoecially PS/2 models from 30's through 80's so make me an offer and I will very seriously consider them. External (parallel port) cdroms of any speed and external modems from 14.4k and up are a big item I always need.

Sorry to be such a hog in plugging this stuff but it isn't doing anyone any good stacked here when someone may be in need of a part of complete unit...

Have a Simply Lantastic 5.x Starter package that will connect two PC's from 8088 8 bit ISA up to the present Pentiums with ISA or EISA slots. Contains two 8/16 bit ethernet network adapters (NE2000 compat), cable, software in both formats for DOS and Windows 3.x and all the manuals in the original box. Used very little but works great. Wanna link the kid's machine to yours to share printer and files? This is ideal.

Make me an offer of "pooter" parts that I can use or a dollar amount and it's yours. I have to get some of this excess out of here. I can use all kinds of cards in ISA/VLB/EISA/MCA/PCI, especially ISA 1 or 2mb VGA video cards or a video capture setup. Just drop me a note and we'll see what can be worked out on it.

Also have collectable IBM 5150/5160/5170 machines, partials and complete units as well as tons of PS/2 items and machines. If you need something just drop me a note and I can tell you if I have it. I work trades, especially trades of these items for cash (that's a trade, come on!).

Help with an IBM Displaywriter 6360
Problem; I had a company call me to repair one of these things and it was not terribly difficult to get
back up and running but they have a great deal of information stored on those big 8 inch
floppies and they would like to save this info to other media if they can. I did not want to
invest too much time in the project as they are a large company but are going bankrupt,
quite literally ie. they don't always get their bills paid. I was curious if anyone knew of a
relatively simple way of transferring the data off the big 8 inchers to some more modern
media in a usable format. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It works like a charm. I don't how much ram it has in it but it has alot of simms. I think they are either 256k chips or 1 meg chips. It has eight of them. I also have a bag of potporri memory chips that all work but I don't know there size. I think that it has a 120 meg harddrive in it. It has a 5.25 floppy and a 3.5 floppy in it. I think that is about it. Oh yeah, the gateway also has an internal 14.4 modem that works. If you have any more questions just ask.

I acquired a Hewlet Packard Colorado 120MB Jumbo Tape Drive and I'm having some trouble getting it to work with HP's Windows 95 backup software. (I know Windows 95 isn't obsolete, but this drive is.) The tape drive works with HP's DOS software, but not with the Windows 95 one. The installation of the software installed al the drivers for the tape backup, but when I open the program it doesn't see that I have the drive. It lists my hard drive, and 3.5" and 5.25" disk drives only. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also I have a Gateway 4SX-33 (486SX-33) and I'm trying to get an Intel i486DX2-66 OverDrive chip to run in it. Gateway gave me the jumper settings they think are correct for that overdrive chip, but it didn't work. When I boot up with the overdrive in and the jumper settings that Gateway gave me, it tests the memory but doesn't send any info to the monitor. Any ideas?

I might be able to get a Epson Equity I+ from someone who has no
use for it. I know it has a ST-506 drive in it and a 5.25"
floppy. I don't know if any of it works -- no video card
in it. Anyone know anything about these machines and if they

I have a Zenith Data Systems SuperSport 286 laptop, but I don't have the boot up disk. If someone has it, contact me. Also, I don't have any idea why it doesn't detect the hard drive. Underneath, it tells me that its type 44, but when I enter 44, it doesn't respond. It locks up with a blank screen. Is this because it needs an OS? Silly mistakes that any weekend pc-pro wannabe

first, on my 5x86...
I decided to upgrade my ram to 64 kb 72 pin simms 60ns fpm
it worked fine with the 30 pin simms I had and had the slots
so i went for it...boom!!! dead board, (or so i thought)
I did every diagnostic i could and still had a dead board.
Everything eccept PUT BACK IN the old 30 pins and reboot.
which i finally did last night.Started right up.
Seems that my board
didn't like that newfangled memory.
As for my presumed dead 386...
Well, I tried this little trick too,
In this case thew board has to be
FULLY populated in at least one bank
before even getting a post.
Now i know what you hard core
fixeruppers are saying,
"Not this newbie stuff again"
but its a lesson that bears repeating,
Sometimes the most obvious problems can be
overlooked in a crisis. Now if only
I hadn't just spent 300 dollars on a
new mainboard/processor i'd feel better.

I have recently aquired an "Em Pac" 486 and I'm trying to find a bit of information out so that I can perform some upgrades. it has a motherboard model "G486 SVL-3" (no brand name) and I was wondering if anyone knew the jumper settings for such a beast.
The computer also has a Cirrus Logic video card that I am looking to aquire win3.x drivers for. The numbering on the chip goes like this:

With it came a 128K RAM card and a "PC Card Reader"

DOS driver "CD.SYS", and there should also be a formatter
tool.
Does any kind soul out there still have the driver disks
for that beast around and can zip/uuencode/mail it to me?

I have a BSR external CD-ROM made by Matsushita. It has a parallel interface that connects to a proprietary sound/interface card. I am trying to use it under Windows 3.1. I have gotten what I believe to be the driver for it, but I don't know the card settings (address, IRQ, anything else). Does anyone know of where I might find a list of the jumper settings?

I just re-read my post, and thought it may not be clear enough, so here is the clarifcation, I'm looking for the Joysticks for the systems spoken of below, sorry for any confusion.

I have several questions:
First-I have an IBM Personal System/2 Model 60. I put a Model 65 mother board in it, and the older floppy drive doesnt work. I am looking for a trade for a 65 floppy and faceplate, for the 60's floppy and face plate.

Second-I have an IBM PS/2 Model 55SX that locks up after it boots from the hard drive. If i boot it from a floppy, it works fine, but if i boot from the hard drive, it locks up. I was running DOS 6.0, i reformatted, and am using PCDOS 4.01.

Third-I have several SIMMS for older computers that take memory chips with metal pins on it. I think I have 4 megs. Make an offer if you are looking for this rare type of memory.

We have an old analyzer that has a Seagate ST225 harddrive in it.
The harddrive turned to toast. I found a ST251 but I found out
that there is no way to make changes to the bios for harddrive
parameters. So I'm looking for anyone that my have a ST225

I have a question for anyone with an answer. I have an old IDE (I assume) drive made by Western Digital. It is only 20 megs but it is enough to fit what I want to put on this old 286 I have. Unfortunately, it is referred to as a XTA interface drive. I assume this means `XT` and thus it will not work on a AT machine (286). Am I wrong in thinking this or is my only choice to try to find an 8-bit IDE controller and use one of my XT`s to run the drive.

I have a DEC PDP 11/23 + with a RXDX Disk Controller. I think
the RXDX Disk Controller is bad and I am looking for a
replacement.

I have a Compaq 486dx4-100 which was working fine until I
tried to get files off a os2/warp hard drive. I set up the
cmos to see the os2 hd as C: hoping to boot os2 and copy files
to the compaq hd then put the compaq hd back in the master
position my problem is, now that os2 is the primary boot disk
I can't get into compaqs cmos edit. I've tried every thing I
can think of. On my bsr the bios is what controls the cmos setup
and it hits the option before trying any of the drives. Is there
some similar trick to get into cmos setup on the compaq? I have
a "rescue disk" which is not much help. I can start windows but
that does not help get into the cmos setup. I would appreciate
any help you might have to offer. I bought this machine to give
to a young friend who does not have a decent computer and was
hoping to give it to him Thursday.

I have a problem with my old monitor. It's an Acer of some sort,
not a very good monitor (dotpitch 0.39!). But it is the only
monitor I can afford right now. The problem is, that it seems to
have good days and bad days. Some days it is just impossible
to get a picture. I don't know if it's the monitor that finally
breaking down or does my videocard (Matrox Mystique) disturb the
monitor? Has anyone else had this problem?

I have an old Compaq LTE 286 PC (no setup disk), one slightly used DOS system disk, a Compaq Laptop carry case, 2 battery packs, one bubble printer, one charger, and a Wolfenstein disk. I have a Compaq Portable 386 that I am trying to restore. It's now running MSDOS 6.21 and I'd like to install Windows 3.1. Unfortunately I do not have Compaq's version of MSDOS, which had some alterations to the mode command, allowing you to set up the Compaq Plasma display properly. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Compaq's version of DOS 3.31 or greater? Better yet, does anyone have a utility to properly set the plasma display into CGA mode?

P.S. The computer had been running Windows 3.1 for many years until a well meaning friend helped my inlaws install some new software... I may have to resort to buying a video card and installing it into the expansion slot to get it working again.

I have a Compaq Portable III, of which the power supply has recently failed. I have been able to hook up another power supply that I had laying around and have managed to get it to power the computer, but not the monitor, due to the lack of labels on the power supply saying how much voltage there is going through the cables to the monitor. I need to know the voltage levels that should be going to the monitor, and which wire in the cable corresponds to what.

I am having trouble with linking two computers together via their
serial ports. I have the DOS program Zip 2.02a, which can transfer
files between the serial ports on IBMs. Problem is, I can't seem to
be able to send anything larger than 16K. It will show 8K sent, 16K sent,
and then . Please help!!! The computers are a Compaq 80286 and
an IBM Aptiva 80486.

I just moved and broke out my old Commodore SX-64 for the first time in years. It still boots and appears to be working, but the video is "scrambled" on the cute little built-in monitor.

Any Commodore hackers around that can fix this, or give me a clue what to try to isolate/fix the problem? (I've considered running another video source into the monitor to find out if it's the video output of the 64 or the monitor, but haven't had time yet.)

P.S.: Sorry, I'm not interested in selling, but I do want to get it working again, both for myself and the kids. Nothing I have now is half the fun the old 64 was - and I still think GEOS ranks as one of the great hacks of all time...

My problem is very briefly that I need to upgrade a few PC:s (actually 3) M4-434:s with one more harddrive. Every PC have right now a hard drive and a CD-Rom connected to the "Local Bus IDE VESA HDU Conn". Is it possible to use the other "Hard disk conn"-connection on the board and end up with 3 objects connected altogether?

Got a INEX3000 made by NAE WAE Semiconductor Co LTD model JCUN 386SX25 -it's missing a HDD and one internal board -would like to find some parts or sell it for parts

HELP!!!! I have a problem with my Connors CFS210A. I upgraded this unit and placed it into a 386. It now says ERROR OS and it will not let me boot up unless I have a disk. I ran scandisk on it it say it can't fix a FAT error. How do I get back into it to reformat and take the error off. It work fine before I tried to reinstall it into another unit>

My power switch blew out, so I replaced it and now I need

I have a ProMicro 486DX2-80 with a Green VLB main board. Current I have two double sided 8m FPM modules installed and it works O.K. If I replace them with two 16m modules of the same type according to the manufacturers specs the system will not boot. I can hear the post memory click but nothing appears on monitor. All jumpers are according to manual specs. I have parity checking disabled in the bios.

I have a chap here with an old AT286 that has forgotten its BIOS settings. As I am sure you remember, in those days, the BIOS was entered using a setup floppy, but of course, this is no longer available. Can you point me somewhere I can download such a thing?

Several recent posts have asked about BIOS upgrades so they can use big hard drives in older systems. Finding a real compatible BIOS can be difficult, but there is an alternative. Several of the drive manufacturers have software patches (Maxtor's MaxBlast and Western Digital's EZ-Drive, for example) that you can download from their websites for free. Maxtor's URL is the easiest to remember - it's www.maxtor.com.

There are also BIOS Enhancer cards that fit in an 8-bit ISA slot (Promise Technology and SIIG both make them). I've used these with varying degrees of success.

If your heart is set on a full BIOS upgrade, try Unicore Software, Inc. (www.unicore.com).

I must run HP-UX 9.01 on this machine, but can't get
old disks that are recognized by the install CD. New
disks are usable as mounted filesystems, but fail with
the install CD's script. The problem is that the install
CD is the only way of making a root filesystem which has
its primary swap configured. All my attempts to dd, cpio,
dump-restore, a working root disk to a new disk fail on
boot with a panic about the primary swap being unconfigured.

Anyone with a source of older disks, or a way to get around
the Install CD please let me know. Thanks, R

Many people seem to have trouble finding drivers for their PC's. This is because many PC's are made by different companies, and then branded differently. A way to find out who the original manufacture was is to look for a FCC id number. if you then type this number in at http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/ead it will tell you who the manufacture is.

Searching for ANY information on a Compaq SLT 386s/20 computer. I ESPECIALLY NEED A SETUP DISK!!! There is a math co-processor in it that isn't being recognized. The coprocessor if fine (tested O.K.), but I need to tell the computer that it's there. It's running slower than it should, because it's confused.

I have been attempting to install a 2.5gbyte fujitsu IDE drive into a compaq deskpro 3/25i in place of the 80mbyte drive.
The setup procedure will not allow the configuration of drives with more than 2099 cylinders. (The 2.5G drive has 4098 cyls.)
even if the next largest drive is selected in the setup list (#81 is a 2.1 gbyte drive with the same head/sector count) FDISK will never find more than 508 Mbyte drive. I suspect this might be a BIOS limitation.
Does anybody know of a BIOS upgrade for this system which will permit drives above 508 Mbyte?

Okay, this is directed to anyone and everyone that has seen my messages about DOS 6.21 with Doublespace. I have the copy in my hand and I now see the error of my ways. It is not DOS 6.22 or 6.21 or even 6.2 It is however DOS 6 with Doublespace just plain 6 and yes I have checked the record books on this one, there were 1543 copies of the program installed onto the harddrives of computers that were bought. There were 500 copies of the program sold to comsumers in the boxes that were "on the shelf". So I am sorry for any inconvienience to anyone and yes this software semirare. 1. I have damaged external modem SmartLink 2834A (FCC ID: FI 794082834). I look
for EPROM file of this.
2. In my collection is LASER 2001 with 5.25" FDD. In disk interface DI 100A is
bad ROM 2364 type. Wanted EPROM file for this , any software on diskettes

I've a Compaq Contura 3/20 and have bought a 8mb simm for it

Thanks to all who answered my XT question about adding a 3.5" Hard Drive.

My new problem is...

I just got a Genoa Systems Super VGA 8-bit Card (model 5100 / BIOS ver. 2.1).
It has a VGA and an EGA connector.
When I put the card in and fired up the machine the GENOA BIOS message was displayed and everything looked ok but then the computer should normally put its name, FiveStar XT, followed by all the cards in the system and their address (video card, printer, async comm.) then do a RAM check, then load config.sys and autoexec.bat.
When this card is in there however, the machine displays the FiveStar XT line but then puts the message "Error #04" and waits. If I press enter it goes on to the config.sys and autoexec.bat files and stops at the c: prompt. I can use the graphics card to play Simcity (only graphical game on the system) just fine.
I want to know what the message "Error #04" means and what I can do to get the machine to boot normally.
Note: There are 4 dip switches on the face of the card and they are all turned to the off position.

I am getting ready to give a COMPUDYNE 4DX33 to my fateher. I just put in 8 4MB memory modules, but the machine is only seeing 4 (16Mb). Does anyone know the jumper or bios settings to see and use the other 16MB of memory.

I have tons of atari stuff that we want to get rid of. It takes up to much space that we dont have. I also have a very rare copy of MS-DOSÖ 6.2 w/ DoublespaceÖ. This is not 6.22
This version was made right before 6.22. It was recalled when MicrosoftÖ was sued for useing the product called Doublespace because they didn't have the rights to license it with DOS. Only about 1000 of these were made and over500 of them were preinstalled on computers. which leaves only about 300 to be bought from a store with the disks and manuals. The merchandise is unopened and on 5,25 disks. This software is very rare and cannot be found without a high price. I am told that to this day only around 50 unopened copies exist. This comes from MicrosoftÖ. Dos 6.22 was made to make up for the mistake the micrsoftÖ made in 6.2 I am selling this software to the person who gives me the highest price. I am also selling the atari stuff to the person with the highest price. To find out what I have tell me what u want and I will tell tou if I have it.

In desperate need of a monitor for my EPSON QX-16 anyone know where I might purchase one?

I have a Packard Bell Statesman Laptop that I just
purchased used. It is a 486 33mhz with 12 megs of ram
and a 200 mb hard drive. It came with a disk to
reflash the bios or, in other terms, change the settings.
There where a few things that I needed to change. One
was that there was a beep from the PC speaker when a
key was pushed. As I ran the bios reflashing utillity
it froze. I then restarted and when I did the hard
drive powered up, but about a second later the power
light started turning on and off. It turned on and off about
once every second and when ever the power light would change
there would be a soft clicking sound from the PC speaker.
Every time it is turned now it does this and doesn't start
up. To turn it off I have to disconnect the power supply.
I have taken my Laptop to several computer repair
places and everyone said it was a different problem. They
all said it would be more than it's worth to fix.
My Laptop started doing this only 2 days after I got it
and I can't take it back. It's unuseable like this. I don't
have enough money to get a new motherboard or buy any major
parts. If there are ANY sugestions you have they would be
very appreceated!

The machine had a PSU fault and, when it failed the user
messed about with the video card dip switches. I have got
it working partially by deducing some of the switch
positions by the dust on the switches :) but its default
mode is, at present mono40 so the initial startup screens
look rough. I would like to set it to default to co80.

NEEDED: schematics for TANDY 1400HD power supply (internal switching). I need to get some important files off of the HD, and the power supply blew. The HD is not standard, and I have no other way to access it, other than through the Tandy. If anybody has a working power supply, let me know.

Willie, IBM has materials online, software online and full parts availability for machines way back to pre-msdos machines. They more than do their share of support, and worldwide. It's just a matter of looking or asking when someone that's not familiar with an IBM product needs help. AST research is another that bears a pat on the back for supporting older items, at their cost. There are many others in that category but way too many to mention briefly.

Does anyone know what jumper contact on the motherboard needs to be shorted to dump the BIOS Password? System user has departed and is presently unknown (no records kept). We cannot access PC without a password.

My brother has an old WANG LAPTOP COMPUTER, model WLTC

This machine is defected, the has partially damaged (erased)
EPROM chips with the BIOS. I can't read the contents of this EPROMÆs,
the results of reading on EPROM programmer are partially random.

this machine model (64 Kbytes or 2 times 32 Kbytes) or memory dump

I have just aquired a VGA Backlite LCD display. I want to wire the display so that it can run of any video card!

This is a Zenith model ZFL-181-93. I got it with some other items that I bought. I don't know anything about. I was told it has two 3 1/2" floppy drives and includes ports for RS232, Printer, RGB/Video, EXT. FDD, and an EXT. BUS which might be a mini SCSI but I'm not sure. The case is set up so that you can add an internal modem. The battery is dead and I don't have the AC adapter so I can't test it.

Have Macintosh Portable, but no power supply. Does anyone know what will work with this computer?

I have a Tandy Memory Plus Expansion Board, tandy catalog number 25-1011
that brings the base memory of the machine from 128k up to 640k RAM.

It came from a Tandy 1000 (no suffix) but will work on a Tandy 1000A and
1000HD. Full information documents are contained on line at

Not sure if your model works with it? Check the docs for your model 1000

and look under the memory upgrades page to see if it will. I know for
sure it will NOT work on the EX and HX models.

Hi everyone...I'll get back to help a few of you...I've got old info and old programs that are in working order. However, I need help.

I'm looking for a parts compatibility list for an old NOTESTAR 1183 laptop with a 486DX processor and only 4 Meg Ram. I've been trying to use my old MS OFFICE 4.0 on it and really could use some more memory. The manual says you just need to plug in another board, but doesn't say what kind or what will fit.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Network help needed. I'm trying to setup a network with Netware Lite 1.0
and I have now two cards Ge2000III with both bnc- and tp-connectors.
I have five computers (P133, 486dx, 386/25, 286/6 and 8086 PS/2 mod.30)
I have 2 printers (Canon BJC-240, Fujitsu DX2100).
My problem is that I cannot find any suitable Network card for my PS/2.
It is a 8-bit slot where there are no room for longer cards than the ISA-slot.
Can anyone give me suggestions on what cards I should look for (or if anyone have
one they can sell). I also need drivers and instructions for it.
I also need a monitor for the PS/2 that should be as small as possible (6"-9").

Does anyone know how to get into the bios of a Zenith 400+ Series computer?

I have a memory board for a planar type ZDS machine, came out of a Z248.
This one is the newer type that has four SIMM sockets on it, uses 30 pin
SIMMS. There is no memory installed, just the card itself, works great.
Goes into the special 32 bit type slots like the CPU, IO and other type
memory cards do on planar units.

Not sure how many types of ZDS units this will work in.

Need $15 for it which includes shipping in the 48 conus states.

Will consider trades of equal value cards for ISA, VLB, PCI or even MCA
slots, but please no network cards. Will also trade for one or two
Microsoft InPort mice, without the cards since I have them.

OK all. I recently posted an add trying to get rid of My older computers. I NOW have all of the other ones (ZENITH 286-??, Mac 512k, IBM XT) plus a "Leading Edge " thing (Im tired of messing with them all...) and a gutted Mac Classic. Will trade for 386 Laptop, or anything ekse thqat is useful. they all work, but are in need of repair (New job..no time) none have disks, and I do have about 10 5 1/4 floppy drives, yada yada yada. I guaruntee it all works, but remember, it needs repairs (they will run, some are weird, \the XT boots into BASIC, I dont know how to get ouyt.., and I havent turned on the Leading Edge thing, the 512 needs a new keyboard cable, comes with ext. floppy, 2 keyboards, software. I've swapped the 486SX25 process for a 486DX250 overdrive in a DECpc 425ST.
It works OK but won't boot without manual intervention because it comes up with
a NMI failsafe timer error. I assume it is confused by the processor now going
twice the speed. There are jumpers on the processor board marked UPGD which may fix
this but I have no manual. Does anyone have a clue which I need to change.

I recently tried to install a second hard drive, a Maxtor 5.7GB. I thought everything went okay, the bios recognized the partitioned drive and I was able to access it, but I kept getting a bios error on startup. I physically removed the second drive from the pc and the bios but I continue to get the error. I tried loading the bios "Defaults" and still I get the error.

Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this problem. I recently
obtained a IBM Thinkpad 750Cs. When I attempt to boot the
computer, I get two beeps frpm the P.O.S.T. system. I
recieve an error code of 5016. Now when i enter the system
diagnostic mode, all the tests return normal results. By
hitting ESC I am able to exit the Diagnostic mode and Win 3.1
will run normally except for the fact that the pointing
device or the mouse do not function even though the drivers
were loaded. Someone mentioned to me that this error code
was erronious and there was a service disk to upgrade the
BIOS. Is there anyone who is familiar with this model or
problem who can offer some advice. I would greatly
appreciate any and all advice in this matter.

That's right, *FREE*. I bought it (cheap) and can't use it. As far as I can tell, It will only work in the above mentioned systems (it requires a PGA processor socket, rather than the standard "clone" 286 socket).

I rescued an old LTE 286 Laptop PC from a scrap pile at my dad's company building a few days ago. I've been trying to reformat it, and load DOS onto it, but it either cannot read C: or has a problem with its C: drive. I recently purchased an OEM sound card called the Soundconductor 16 PnP, which appears to be based on ESS Technology's ESS1869 chipset..
My supplier is unable to help me with the problems I am haveing. The card
manufacturer is unknown to me although the capital letters C E are printed
on the little folder that came with the card. I installed the card's DOS drivers
and DOS programs respond to them. I get sound in DOS. I installed the Windows 95
drivers and cannot get the card to function in Windows. The Device manager puts
an exclaimation mark in a yellow circle over the ESS Audiodrive Icon. When I click
on Properties in the device manager, the device manager claims the hardware is not working
properly, the card is not installed properly or there are drivers missing. I have quadruple
checked each of the aforementioned items and can find nothing wrong. I have deleted the
device from system manager, removed all drivers from the Windows 95 folder and then restarted the
machine and reinstalled the drivers to no avail. I also repeated the
above process with drivers from ESS Technologies Website. No luck, same symptoms.
I have tried installing the card in different slots also. I have tried some
hardware and software diagnostics on it and they all claim there is something wrong with the card that
they cannot pinpoint. I feel I must be overlooking something but I am unsure what it is. Any
help you can give would be appreciated greatly. E-mail is the best

Clearing my basement! Here's a few things that I found in boxes:

EXEREX 386 LAPTOP - Totally torn apart. everything is there - 4 meg RAM 60 AND 80 MB HD, 1.44meg floppy. Only problem (that I know of) is that the LCD was at the bottom of the box, and took the hit when the box fell off the shelf. As far as I know, the external VGA port still works. Make offer.

IBM 14" XGA MONITOR - Works great! needs XGA-2 adapter. Make offer.

HARD DRIVES - Don't know if they work. Email for more info.

TOSHIBA 200CDS LAPTOP - Just refurbished. Email for more info or make offer.

As I was moving boxes, I found I need a few things:

POWER SUPPLY/BATTERY - internal power supply and battery needed for Tandy 1400HD

ANY INFORMATION/PARS - For Compaq SLT 386s/20 - battery, manuals, memory chips, hard drives, and especially SETUP DISKS!!

PRINTER - Battery-operated printer for laptop wanted.

I have got a 486dx 66 vl bus pc with a conpaq model 420 monitor.The monitor has a 1" black border around the picture and i cant seem to configure it to fill the whole screen.

I have a 386 that I mess around on at night. My dad says that the box for the moniter I am using says it is a RGB moniter. When I run an old game, it says my display is CGA. I got a VGA card and an adapter that makes the 9 pin connector on the moniter into a 15 pin connector which vga moniters have. When I try to run it, I just get a green screen with black lines going through it. Is this going to work at all. Do I need to do something else? Please respond quickly via e-mail. My friend recently bought a Tandy 1000HX and I need info on it. What its harddrive is (if it has one) and where can I find programs for it. (Games, and Word prossesor(sp) Also, can I put a mouse on it? Is it worth changing motherboards to a newer one? What is the cheapest way to play simple games and type? I have two old IBM 4019 laser printers and I would really like to upgrade the RAM on it. They keep locking up the systems they are on if we try to print any complex graphics. Any ideas where I could find someone who still sell the appropriate memory upgrade?

I have a NEC Pro Speed 286. It has one com port and a modem is attached to this port. How can I disable the modem so I can use a mouse with the computer.

I have several hardcards. They have a Seagate st07a/08a controller which I have the jumper information on it. It uses a Quantum EZ 127 hard drive.

Does anyone have the software to initialize it? or other information about it.

I am trying to upgrade an IBM XT with a 3.5" floppy drive. There was just a 5.25" A: drive and a 80meg hard drive before. I have the power cable and drive cable hooked up but cannot access the drive. I assume it has something to do with jumpers but I don't know much about them. The jumpers on the 3.5" drive are as follows...

EPSON PX-8 for sale
We found an EPSON PX-8 in the basement during a cleanup,
and I thought it might be worth something to someone. I have not
tried to start it up, since I don't have the power adapter for it.
There is also some shrink-wrapped documentation available.
Ask me questions and I will take a second look at it.
Any idea how many of these were sold back in the mid 80's?
