I just got a stripped down Macintosh IIfx and I need parts.
If you have or know where I can find a HD between 40 and 160 MB (160 preferred [duh])let me know. I'm also needing a video card. Any information you can give would be useful. I don't know where to get it or even what the proper configuration might be.

Hi there!

I've recently purchased an HP 9000 model 520. Unfortunately
it came without manuals. Is there anyone who has got them
or is at least familiar with the Basic language of this
system? Most of all I'd like to know how to make a copy
of the system disk, as the one I have is quite old and I
don't have any confidence in it... (and the system won't
boot from the hard disk).
Any help welcome! Thanx a lot in advance!

I am a typing/computer teacher and have started a typewriter
and computer museum for my classroom. I purchased a Compaq
computer at a second-hand shop. It is one of the earliest,
if not the earliest model that Compaq made. It is what was
referred to as a portable computer--very small screen with
the keyboard being the bottom of the carrying case. No disks
were with the computer and the earliest version of DOS that
I have is 3.0. I have another old computer (Kaypro, pre DOS)
that has CPM as the operating system, but the Compaq will not
boot up with the CPM disk. I need a version of DOS 1.0 to
attempt to boot up the computer. It does work IF I had the
proper disks to use with it. Any information about this
model computer or about how to find an old version of DOS
would be much appreciated.

I have an unused and unregistered copy, complete, of Zenith Data
Systems/Heath Company's "Breakthrough Timeline" which appears to be a
timeline creator/project manager. It has the original box, manuals, key
template, registration certificate and the original 5.25" 360k floppies
(still in the envelope). From scanning the manual it's roughly 1986/87
vintage and should run on most any machine from 8086/8088 up through our
present array of hardware.

Really good condition visually too, might be good as part of a
collection.

Need $12 for it which includes mailing in the 48 CONUS states. First
come, first serve. Email me direct for info.

I have no documentation on a CompuAdd 810 computer that I am trying to set for using an EGA monitor. Right now it has a monochrome monitor. I am not sure if the computer can handle the color monitor. I have changed the SW1 settings that documentation with the EGA card states, but the display is not readable. So I must reset the SW1 settings for a monochrome monitor. My question is can anyone help me with finding the SW1 settings for monochrome monitor?

Alright all of you out there that seem to have access to IBM technical guides, I need something on an IBM ESDI hard disk...

It's an IBM P/N 15F6730 115mb ESDI drive, 5.25" full height, with the type 0669 on the side. It works great in the PS/2 80 that it came out of but I need to run it on a stock ESDI controller that uses the twist in the data cable. What I need is the postioning data on the 6 position DIP switches by the terminating resistor, left rear (looking from rear fowrward). What I have to do is switch it from the DS0 selection to the DS1 position.

Anyone?

jason W is correct that there was a DOS 6.21 after 6.20, as I have had machines loaded with it in my shop (although never had it myself). I'm not sure about the earlier comment about 6.20 as I have a factory copy of it myself and it's registered with MS and never a recall. Go figure.

Hello All,

I'm trying to switch the A and B drives of my grandfather's
486 SLC2-66. I've looked in the manual and it said that
switching the cables would be enough to switch the drives,
so I tried that, after which I also reassigned them in the
BIOS Setup. However, no luck. It still didn't recognize
the drives. Does anyone know if there are any jumpers
that need to be set? Drive A right now is a 5.25" and
drive B is a 3.5". Thanx.

Hello. To Casper and others: There was MS-DOS 6.21. I do not remember what the difference was between 6.2 and 6.21. If some one could direct me to a web site,or send me a scan

Excuse me but I don't remember setting a price on anything. I don't want top dollar for my DOS. I just want it to go to someone who knows its value and what ist is worth. But I never posted a price. And what I meant to say was that I accept anytyhing that is not work. I collect Junk. And I also do not ask much for atari stuff. Most of the money I will make on those will come from Shipping and Handling.
So please dont ridicule me.

How do you like Casper?
He wants top dollar for his merchandise, but in his next post he wants everyone to give him their stuff for free.
If you are going to ask for donations, the least you could do is, set a reasonable price for your own stuff.

What Ms. Kistner is speaking of is that she has Digital/DEC terminals of the following numbers and keyboards to go with them:vt 420 monitor
vt 320 monitor
lx 201 keyboard
lx 402 aa monitor
which are terminals made to communicate to a main frame or mini computer by way of a video connection (3270 or similar) or serial connection. anyone that hasa need for one will know what these are and should contact her if you might be in need of one or more.

I have tons of atari stuff that we want to get rid of. It takes up to much space that we dont have. I also have a very rare copy of MS-DOSÖ 6.2 w/ DoublespaceÖ. This is not 6.22
This version was made right before 6.22. It was recalled when MicrosoftÖ was sued for useing the product called Doublespace because they didn't have the rights to license it with DOS. Only about 1000 of these were made and over500 of them were preinstalled on computers. which leaves only about 300 to be bought from a store with the disks and manuals. The merchandise is unopened and on 5,25 disks. This software is very rare and cannot be found without a high price. I am told that to this day only around 50 unopened copies exist. This comes from MicrosoftÖ. Dos 6.22 was made to make up for the mistake the micrsoftÖ made in 6.2 I am selling this software to the person who gives me the highest price. I am also selling the atari stuff to the person with the highest price. To find out what I have tell me what u want and I will tell tou if I have it.
Thanx.

In addition to the tandy below I also need to find a new home for another 8088 machine - AT&T 6300, complete!

This unit is the beige and black/brown trimmed unit that also has the red see-through panels on front as well as the markers for the drive letters. It has a 20mb internal HDD, original 360k floppy drive, 2 keyboards (one is for parts), 640k memory and a COLOR monitor (original AT&T type). Here's the hitch - the monitor has an intermittent short that needs to be repaired. Otherwise this unit is a primo machine, visually and functionally.

I need to cover the cost of the new keyboard I bought so I'm asking $30 plus shipping for all of it. This bugger is heavy though. Best guess is 40 or 45 lbs total. I will consider trades as below but again the shipping either has to be paid by you or a trade equal to the shipping included. This is an excellent addition to someone's collection.

[Still cleaning]

Ok, I am going to post the original (no suffix) Tandy 1000 unit that I have one last time before the scrap truck comes -

Great working unit, 640k RAM (has the memory card in it), 8088 processor, great condition with two (2) keyboards, one in great shape, one needs a cable. All you do is drop some floppy drives or a floppy and hard drive in (2 5.25" bays) and you have a beautiful little machine with either composite or CGA/TGA up and running. Uses stock MSDOS from 2.11 through 6.22 without a hitch.

What do I want for it? Welllll...I'll take $10 plus shipping or I'll trade for many different PC things. I need cdrom drives (IDE and SCSI pref), sound cards (8 and 16 bit), 72 pin SIMMs (2,4,8 mb), 3.5" 1.44mb working floppies, and other things to include microchannel (PS/2) items. Dependant upon what's traded you may end up paying the shipping or trading an equal amount to the shipping, which shouldn't be much. The whole thing probably weighs 10 lbs. I can probably dig up a floppy drive (5.25") for a few bucks more if absolutely necessary.

Email me direct if interested. Great machine for a collector.

I wirtie Assembler programs during the winter for my obsolete PCs. My IBM 8088 is in the pink still (purchased a twin to it last year). I want to thank all who helped me before. I now am having another problem with the NEC PROSPEED 286 LAPTOP.
This computer has a built in 2400 baud modem and I cannot connect anymore with Luno because they want me to connect at 9600 baud. I only have 1 serial port and I have the mouse attached there. The other com 2 port is hooked to the internal 2400 modem and I need to find another faster internal modem, Use the 28.8 external that I have,or find out what I need to plug into the expansion port to get the com 2 port to the real world.
I cannot get the mouse and the external modem to share port1 so i need to get the modem to run off the printer port or find what plugged into the expansion connecter. I spent 8 hours at the public library going through old computer magazines and found that this computer was sold between 1988 and 1991. I cannot find anything else except h that the price then was over $4,000. That may be why there was so few sold. I hope that anyone who has books on thei computer will email me and let me know anything about the expansion port and acessories that were available. I want to use this machine in my motorhome traveling and need to get the faster modem attached. As before Thanks in advance.

I am looking for information for an old TI Omni 800/Model 850 dot matrix printer. I am trying to set this up on an old 486 with WFW 3.11 and have not been able to get it to print correctly. These printers are supported by Genicom now and the only information about drivers for this model says to use Epson MX-80 under Windows. There is a bank of Dip switches inside and I think my these may be set incorrectly. If anyone has any documentation on this printer specifically on the switch settings I would sincerely appreciate a copy.

To "Dragon":

The pinouts for most Apple II connectors can be found at:

http://www.visi.com/~nathan/a2/faq/pinouts.html

The slot pinouts for a II+ should be the same as those on
a IIe, which is listed on the page.

Also, to the person who was looking for the pinouts to the
serial ports on a Laser 128, the Laser 128 is a clone of
the Apple //c, so the serial ports should be identical.
//c serial pinouts are also on the above page.

A friend of mine has an old 386 system, with one HD on a Goldstar ISA IO controller (type UMC82C862F). Im trying to install a 4 speed Goldstar CD-rom into his machine, but it will only work if i disconnect the HD and boot from a floppy. If i boot from HD (the CD set as slave) it wont recognize it.

Can anybody help me with this?

Hi there folks. If anyone is in need of a ibm personal computer
case (XT style I think), I have one for sale for $20. It has a
power supply, but the supply runs sporadically. If your an
electroncis person you may be able to get it to run right. If
you interested in the boards and drives that came with the computer, I
still have the board and 2 floppy drives. I do not know the condition
of the computer or drives. If you are interested in the whole
computer, Ill take 35 bucks for it, which includes shipping. (Its pretty
darn heavy.) Email me at maverick@lynchburg.net if your interested.

I am running GeoWorks Ensemble on a Magnavox 286. Does
anyone know what will happen to program if I upgrade the
computer's ram from 2 to 4 mb? Will GeoWorks run any
faster? Did GeoWorks have any sounds in it? Will it
work on a Pentium computer? I think the software is obsolete.

I have an old Magnavox 286 HeadStart computer that I
am trying to add sound to. I have tried two sound cards,
but both of the software installations I tried gave me
the error message "sound card not installed." I have the
sound card firmly into the slot. Could it be that I need
4 MB ram to make it work? I have 2 MB and have Windows 3.1
on the computer, but I could buy a 4 MB simm and put it in
if necessary. However, I thought the DOS version of a sound
card would work anyway. The first sound card I tried was
a Jazz 16 and the second was a Diamond. Both are supposed
to work with a 286 computer. Maybe the jumpers are wrong,
the DMAs, or something else? I sure would like to make the
sound card work. I do have a modem in one of the three slots.
Would that make the sound card not show up? I put the sound
card on the bottom of the three slots and the modem on the
second. The top slot is open. If anyone has any information
or ideas on how to get a sound card working in the Magnavox
286, please let me know by sending e-mail to ag5t@hotmail.com.

Thank you in advance.

I have an old Tandon 386SX notebook. It won't hold BIOS settings, doesn't recognize the floppy driver or serial port. it's time to tidyup my pigsty (better known as my bedroom) so being being loathed to just junk stuff i'll ask if anyone here needs and/or wants any specific pieces (or chips) from some old pc's/xt's etc. -- drop me a line. oh and i have a few AMI 386 bioses hanging around.

also in a previous post i mentioned that I was looking for information on the Tandon OPTION computer -- someone was kind enough to point me in the direction of tandon switzerland, i didn't see anything about the option computer so is this known by a different name ??? -- the computer seems to have been junked by H&R Block as thats what software was on the harddisk and what the serial number started with.

I have a Tandy printer No. 250 that setup using the Epison 2500 mode so it will print in color.
Recently, my motherboard and memory was destroyed my a massive electrical spike when I tried to boot the cpu.
Now that everthing is back on line, My cpu will not recognize the printer. I have changed cables, rehooked up the cables and checked connections to no avail. It still will not work.
I keep getting messages that it is not on line when it is. I may point out also, that while my cpu was down, I had the printer worked on. Could that be the reason it will not work?
I have gone through setup several times on the printer itself.

I recently acquired an obsolete Compaq LTE (original XT version)
for a song. It is in beautiful shape, that is, except for the
hard drive, The Hard drive used in it was a Conner 20 mb CP4021,
and the machine cannot access it at all, even compaq's setup
program and low level format will not work on it. I have tried
Norton's NDD on it, to no avail. Does anyone know of a way to
use another drive on this machine - the Conner was a special
drive made for the machine, and if replacing it, I would like
to put in a larger drive, if possible.
I really want to get this machine going, as I run a large
genealogy web page, and this machine is a great size to take
to the archives and to people's homes to take notes. Speed
for that purpose really doesn't matter, and with the
expenses of the Web page, I really can't afford to buy a
newer laptop or notebook, though I would love to. If
anyone has any information on replacement of the drive
in this nice looking relic, I would appreciate hearing
from them!

With regard to the post below about Minix, the best place
for information is the Minix Information Sheet

information about Minix, and has links for downloading the

description of the kernel and design decisions, and how
to use Unix.

Hi!
I got my PS/2 Model 30-286 to stop "dumping its stack" by running the
reference disk. Now, I need to find a a hard drive. The hard drive that
was in it was a Plus HardCard IIxe (50 MB) There is what appears to be an
on-board HD controller near the power supply. It appears to be a
proprietary (I think that's how it's spelled) SCSI or IDE-type cable and HD
that gets the power and signal from the same cable. I need the hard drive
and the cable.

Any body have one??

I just got another PS/2 at a flea market for $5. It's a PS/2 Model 30-286 (10MHz, 1 meg RAM and a 50 MB Plus HardCard). It has 3 16bit ISA slots. I deleted the partitions on the HD, and attempted to install DOS 5.0. However, after I boot, and start running setup, a message comes up saying

internal stack dump
system halted

It would also do this while running programs in PS DOS 3.30.

Do I have to run the Reference Disk? If I do, where do I get one? Or is something else wrong?

I am also trying to get my friend's PS/2 L40sx laptop working (again). Whenever I try to intall something (after DOS and Windows were installed), a message pops up in the left -hand top corner of the screen:

ATTENTION: A serious disk error has
occured while writing to drive C.
Retry (r)? _

Whenever I press , the message comes back up. We have tried two different main boards, and three hard drives. The only drive that works is the one that gives the error message. I can install DOS and Windows with no problems. It's only after that that nothing will install. I have tried running ScanDisk, but the computer locks. I reformatted the HD, it said that there were 2K bad on the disk. Could there be a virus on the drive? And if there is, how can I use an anti-virus program when I can't install anything on the HD???

Any suggestions??

Help - I have a 586 Motherboard that was pulled from a system due to the fact that it has bad cache. When I disabled the cache, it works OK, so 1)Does anyone have an external cache module for sale (256 or 512k), 2) Can anyone point me towards where I can find jumper settings for this board? The model number on this board is 586F6I-P8, its a socket 7 board with an intel chipset. It is presently set for a P-100, and Id like to know if I can get a Cyrix or AMD to work with this. Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks to all who suggested XT dip switch settings to solve my problems with an old computer. I, however, must claim 40 whacks with an old XT
keyboard as punishment for posting the wrong brand. It is a NCR model
1014 computer type 3285, not a NEC as I originally listed. Fumes from a hot
computer monitor must have blurred my eyesight. Anyway, I tried the XT
settings to no avail. Getting disgusted, I took all the cards out of
the machine and found not one but two 8 switch dip switch banks, one of
which had been hidden from view. Tried XT settings on both but no
go. Anybody have any further suggestions?

I have a Notestar NP-943 notebook computer, 486DX-33.
I need to find a way to hook up a modem for
using e-mail only.

The Notebook has a serial port where the mouse connects to.
Under the 2 batteries are 2 connectors, for external devices,
such as another hard drive, etc. I believe a modem will
connect here. It also has external connections for another
full size keyboard and a full monitor.

Unfortunately, I have lost the User's manuals.

Can anyone help with User's manuals, or ideas on
using a modem with this computer?

Thanks

For anyone that may have responded to the previous plea for help on installing a hi density PS/2 floppy in a model 30 PS/2-

The model 30 is an 8088 machine, and accepts only a low density floppy. The hi desnity will fit but act just like a low density. The model 30-286 is capable of using the high density drives.

For those curious about how to remove the floppies, see the IBM HMM index at http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/cdt/hmm.html
They have manuals online for most machines, not just PS/2.

Can anyone help me with transfering a file from a AMSTRAD PC1640 to a P200 PC (With Windows 95 or possibly 97)

A friend of mine has been writting a book on the AMSTRAD PC1640 and is purchasing a PC (probably P200) and wishes to transfere the book across to the PC. Other then the hard drive the AMSTRAD PC1640 only has a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive.

Are the two computers compatable? Can I connect them with a serial cable? If so how do I go about it on the AMSTRAD PC1640? Is there a better way I can do this?

Thank you kindly for any help with this

I have a Wang 286-8. This machine works fine but each
reboot indicates a "cksum error on the extended setup".
Since no key combinations bring up a builtin setup, I used
various generic setup programs to try to fix this. It
appears, however, that they do not affect the extended area
of the bios setup. The bios makes reference to WWSETUP as
the utility to run.

Does anyone know anything about this WWSETUP program?

Close enough. English word is relay.

The CAS port was used for a cassette recorder. It is a slow
speed serial port. The serial bit stream was converted to
square wave tones at audio frequencies to store on the
cassette. With luck, they could be read back in. There are
two bios calls, to write and read the cassette. I need to
do some digging to get the actual calls. Now, those bios
calls have been redefined to do power management functions
(ie, green pc stuff).

Anyone need info on the Minivac 601? I just acquired one, and I can't seem to get it to work, but I do have all the documentation and the original box. The manuals are great--there are six of them, chock full of illustrations, photos and sample programs, even some speculation on the future of computing. It's dated 1962, so it must be one of the first personal computers out there.

If there is an interest in information on the Minivac, perhaps I'll create a website for it.

I'm back with the Epson Equity II+ again...

I got the hard drive running but I can't seem to figure out how much memory is on it's expansion board (to input for SETUP.) on the expansion board itself (it's an EPSON board) says ADR-RM5 board. There is also a unit #, which is 16220900000. There are 8 D424246C-10 chips across the top labeled 1A-8A, 2 KM4164B-10 chips across the left side labeled 1B and 1C, and 2 HY53C256LS-10 chips next to them labled 2B and 2C...

The setup program gives options for extended memory size in 16K increments up to (i believe) 5mb.. So I need an exact figure.

IF anyone knows ANYTHING about this board or has the docs on it PLEASE help me out!!

Thanks,
Tony

I found a TRS-80 model 3 a few days ago. It came with no software. We purchased a Model 4 when they first came out but none of the software works on it.... it doesn't ask for a diskette when it starts up, just a blank screen, so I assume that it needs an operating system, or something funky done to the ROM. If you have any knowledge about the model 3 and this problem, please send me some information.
Thankyou.

We have bought it all in hopes of being able to sell it and make a little profit. Hopefully, if we don't end up to far under, we will continue updating and such our web site I built. Please visit our website if you are interested in buying or selling new, used, and/or obsolete computer hardware and/or software. I have a Micro Tech Computers 486-33 that always sees the processor as a 16 regardless of what speed I set the jumpers for. The bios is AMI dated 11/16/1993 and ID # 40-0102-001128-00101111-080893-SIS461-F. Also I have 4 4meg 30 pin simms in it that it recognizes just fine but if I add another 4 1meg simms it only recognizes a total of 800 and some odd k of memory. Is this all the memory it can handle or is there something I missing. Also it seems slower than it should be.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

I just purchased an IBM AT 5170, and I have been having alot
of problems trying to get ANY harddrive going in the machine.
It came with a broken 44 meg drive which I replaced with a
Seagate ST-251. When I went to set it up in the setup program,
I noticed that I only have drive types 1-15 available, and I
can't get the drive working with any of them. Types 16-47 are
listed, but I receive an error message when I select them,
saying that those options are not available. I also tried
a Miniscribe 40 Meg IDE, and I had the same problem.
Any suggestions?

I am trying to fix up a coworker's Epson Equity II+. Her
CMOS battery died, and I am left in the dark as to what to
set her hard drive type to. I downloaded the SETUP program from EPSON's FTP site and got the system to boot from the A: drive, but I don't know what the hard drive type is.

The hard drive itself is a WD 95048A, 977 cylinders, 5 heads. I believe it is a 40mb drive. (it is IDE.) I cheated and looked in my own systems' AMI bios and tried that type but I guess it's not the same as EPSON's.

Does *anyone* know how I can solve this problem? Quick?

Thanks,

I'm having trouble upgrading from 8 meg RAM to 16 meg RAM
on my old computer.

It's an old 486/33 computer bought at HD Systems, Santa

main board is 'AT 4' (I have the book and that's all it
says, too).

Friends who bought these machines at the same time
have also had the same problem.

Has anyone experienced this on this machine and fixed
it possibly though a BIOS change or skipping 16 and
going directly to 32 megs?

Any help (of course) is most appreciated.

Regards,
Stan

I have a Compaq SLT386s/20 w/ a 115MB HD, and 10 MB RAM. I was wondering if there is any way to upgrade the processor to, say, a 486/33? I was also wondering if there is any way to use a standard IDE HD in this computer. The HD that's currently in is a Conner IDE drive. the data cable (40-pin IDE) is standard, but the power cord is the problem. It is a 3-pin connector that looks more like a 3.5" floppy power connector than the standard 4-pin connector. The HD that I would like to put in (425MB Western Digital Caivar) has the standard 4-pin connector. The Conner drive also has this connector, but it's not used. Is there some way that I can buy or make an adapter?

Any information will be appreciated.

Hi, I have a Zenith Data Systems ZF-148-42 Desktop computer with a 5 1/4" floppy (360k) and a 40 Meg HD.
The problem is, it has always needed a boot disk to start up, but now it says "Non System or Disk Error, Replace and Press any Key when Ready"
This boot disk will still boot all my other computers but not this one any more. Once every 30 tries or so it occasionally boots...
Any ideas what this might be?

Conversely, can anyone provide possible instructions for making a functional replacement if the cord is unavailable. (Or even know of a way to modify the innards to work with some other readily available power cords?)

I bought an old 8088 lunchbox computer with a soft plasma
(I think) screen. I took out the mother board and have tried
different boards: 286, 386, 486. Although I can get some of
these to work, I cannot get the cursor to be seen. I have
loaded as a TSR, a cursor program, and this does work in
some programs such as QEDIT. However, it does not work in
DOS EDIT, nor in WordPerfect for DOS. Why not???
Could I upgrade the screen to a later color screen?

How do you use those, and what were they originally for?

I have a QMS 2001 knowledge system, (combo of laser/fax/scanner/copeir)
2 yrs old, printed less than 200 pages, then died.
Logic @ laser-engine OK, self diagnostic tests out fine.
The paper transport rollers never turn on, looks like the
current to the main driver motor is never switched on.
Anyone with similar malfunction? ( Two years ago the
INTERNET http://www. ONSALE.COM marketed these qms products, several
hundreds were sold, so there must be someone out there
who must have came across an identical malfunction!!)
I hate to throw out a $450 laser printer (originally about $1500)
. Alas, QMS no longer supports these, they would look at it
for a prohibitive sum. Last estimate >2K. Would anyone have
an idea for parts, or would you have a non-functional unit,
let's sayin which the engine or logic card went bad? I'll buy
it.

This item is not very old, but it apparently is a dominant engineering weakness. I have had three Dell Latitude laptops break on the corner while opening up the unit (normal tension). The computers work fine, but their function as a laptop is severely limited. As with most parts, Dell wants more than the computer is worth. If anyone knows of a 475C or compatable that is only worth parts, please contact me. I had given these to close family members and I now feel very embarrased about their conditions.

AT&T 6300 in immaculate shape, with color monitor. Unit works great, 640k RAM, 20mb hard disk, all original with 2 keyboards (1 good, 1 for parts). Monitor has intermittent short so you'll need to repair it.

Asking $30 plus shipping for the main unit, monitor and 2 keyboards. First come, first serve.

Email me direct at RHBLAKE@BBTEL.COM soon! This is really in my way and would make a nice addition to someone's collection.

Hi All!

I was just curious if anyone had any information or parts on the Panasonic Business Partner 270? (it's a laptop... Weird little bugger ;) Mine works perfectly (I've even managed to save it's power, diag, and setup utilities, and it's proprietary EMS driver :) but I'm curious as to a few points about it... It has 1MB of RAM, and I'd like to upgrade it to 2MB or more... But it would be useless if I could not access the memory as XMS (like every other 286 in the world can)... it's proprietary driver only seems to give me EMS, and I don't have a manual to configure it with... Also, the RAM is proprietary too, the (SIMM?) sockets are located under a plastic cover back behind the keyboard... Would anyone have any information about this laptop? I'd much appreciate it...

Thank you,
Joe

PS: If anyone needs help with IBM PCs, XTs, or ATs, I know enough about them to probably fix whatever's wrong :) I also have working knowledge of Compaq Portables and SLT-286s, Commodore Amiga 500s, Commodore 64/128s, AppleIIs (IIe, IIc) and Macintoshes (SE and older) :)

I recently picked up a Laser 128 at a hamfest (hey, for
three bucks, I couldn't resist...). Only problem is, it
didn't come with a power supply. So...

1) I know that the Laser 128 uses a 15 volt power supply
with a 7 pin, keyboard-type connector. Does anybody have
the pinout for this supply so I can manufacture a supply?
Does anyone have a supply, for that matter, that they
would be willing to sell me?

2) Anyone have a copy of the user's manual for this beast
that they can let go (or photocopy) I will, of course, be happy
to pay for any copying you need to do.

Thanks a lot!

It wasn't that long ago that Sun Remarketing crushed several thousand Lisas and Mac XL (Alternate Name for Lisa), because they couldn't get rid of them. They are so scarce these days that they'll probably fetch several hundred dollars to a collector, but its nearly impossible to find them. Hi!

I was given a Compaq SLT 386s/20. It works great w/two problems.

1- no battery. Does anyone know where I can get a used/bad battery for
this computer?

2- won't recognize HD. It will do mem test (10MB), searck for HD, it will
gring, then say DIS 0 FAILURE: PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE. Is there a way to get
into the BIOS to see if the HD is configured correctly? It is c Conner CP
30101. It is a standard IDE w/standard power connector, but the computer
dosen't use the standard power connector. There is a 3-pin connector on
the opposite side of the HD that the computer uses.

Any suggestions??

I'd REALLY like to get this computer operational.

It's a 286-12. I'm not sure which bios is on board,but I need

Does it take a reference disk like the IBM?
Can't find anything about it on the net.
If I can get this to recognize the hd. It is going to a person

Hello,

I recently acquired a 486 motherboard and I need some idea of its capabilities. The board has "NICE" followed by "EISA". Between the two is "mini". After all of this there is "REV.1" . There is an "Intel Overdrive Ready" ZIF Socket and an AMI Bios with the following info - 486DX EISA BIOS - c. 1992 - AA0224984. The board has 4 EISA slots and 2 VLB.
Two of the more prominent chips say "HiNT" and "OPTi". I have no manual and was wondering if it had support for 486SX/DX/DX2/DX4. I would need to configure the jumpers but they have no markings except the JP#. If anyone has any clue about this please let me know. Thanks.

The hard disk drive has a black faceplate and a green light. It is a half

I am currently booting the system from a single 5.25" bootable disk.
Whenever I type C: to switch to the hdd I get an invalid drive spec. error.

I need two narrow carriage, working, dot matrix printers.
One for my 8-year old, and one for a train museum that
I gave a '386 to.

dirt cheap, or trade for a nice, working Everex 386-33.
as the shipping costs could exceed the cost of the parts,
I would like to do this deal in Maryland/DC area.

heads up: just took two loads of stuff to Salvation Army
drop-off center. It will go to DC, wind up in their stores
in MD/DC/Va. There's a couple of wide-carriage printers
(Epson, IBM), some monitors, a VT-100, keyboards, AT's,
etc. More stuff goes tomorrow.

I have some Epson wide-carriage ribbons, and some Star
narrow carriage ribbons that need a good home.

Anyone wanting to start a free web page should know that Tripod at http://www.tripod.com now has FREE pages at a WHOPPING 11mb space and they even allow small businesses to create a page. Other no-cost sources have lower space, dumb addresses, and restrictions on any commercialization.

I have a nec prospeed 286 and the sites recomended was ftp:ftp.nec.au.com/ this site cannot be forud by me for some reason and I need to find setup disks for this machine. I have dos 6.22 loaded and checkit program says everything is ok ;But. Lpt1 is ok but it says thereis no com ports and it cannot find the modem. The modem is there as i have had the machone apart and it also has the serial com port hooked up. The vga adapter is working also because i hooked a moniter to it and it works. This laptop seems to need more that I can find out from nec as they tell me that they are recieving my emails but their support group still has not answered me. After a month and several emails 2 per week they should know something. They built the machine and now seem to convently forget. I think they want to sell me a new machine but I am going to get this thing fixed first. Anyone who can help please email me. Thanks in advance ...Larry

a couple things:
1. Great Site.
2. I have noticed that several people here have been looking for information on Toshiba Laptops. Much of this can be found on their web site.
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/files/manuals.htm
and second, I own two toshiba laptops if anyone needs parts. one T100 (8088 I think and missing batterey) and 1 T3100 (386, bad [internal part of] power supply)
that's about it for now!

First I want to thank Tom for the great page.

Second I have many items I need to either sell or (in some cases) trade. I have a few older computers, software, PS/2 items, etc and much of it can be viewed on the for sale page of my website. While not all is there you can email me and ask.
The webpage can be accessed by clicking on my name in this post or by going to http://members.tripod.com/~RHBLAKE/fleamarket.html

Thanks!

I have an Apricot XEN-i I bought from the rubbish dump.

It has a light on the front marked 'voice' I think someone
told me these machines can do voice recognician? Any ideas?

Still need an external PSU for it, as I don't know if it
works yet.

Apricots are the most weird and exotic PC compatible machines
around. They are great for messing around with.

Help!!

I have two Mac Pluses with faulty screens.

Both work but the screen will flicker or distort after a few
minutes. I have tried resoldering some points on the analog
boards, but it makes no difference.

It's definitly a component problem. Does any one have a site
or information which I can pin point which component on the
board is playing up, and may be I could buy the part
from Maplins or something?

I have about 6 or 7 audio speaker unit for a Sun Sparc.

They look new, and they are really nice quality. They
each have a half pitch D socket. (bit like a SCSI connector)

Anyone interested in some/all of them?

Will send to anywhere in the world if you pay postage.

Currently upgrading a computer with an OPTI-25 (386DX25)
motherboard. This motherboard has 8 30 pin SIMM sockets.
The manual says it is upgradable to 8mb using the onboard
sockets or 16 mb using an optional memory expansion board.
Does anyone know if this board is capable of handling 4mb
SIMM's, if not does anyone know where I can find one of the
memory expansion boards.

I have a Datapoint, unknown type, no numbers anywhere, sort of two
large desktops, one with a huge cardridge drive,
Mainboard stamped April 1980.
the other with one single-sided 8" and a harddrive,
they run CP/M, i have a datapoint 1560 terminal for these,
but it's broken.
Does anyone know how to make it boot from one of the
terminal ports (it's a four port rs232 on the cardridge
drive unit), or might anyone have the pinout for the
"microbus" that the 1560 should be connected to,
so i can make something?

A couple of groundrules and comments:

1) Try to keep it to older machines. There are tons of other resources on the net for current set-ups. This page gets long enough just dealing with the old stuff.

2) Don't send profane flame e-mails to others. It's childish and only serves as a disincentive for others to post and participate.

3) I do not want to act as an arbitrator between buyers and sellers. I don't mind if people sell the occasional computer here, but I don't want to see buyers and sellers airing their differences on the Helpline. If you want to regularly buy and sell, I would recommend www.ebay.com or another on-line auction. (This issue is 2 months old, but better late than never.)

4) This version of the Helpline has been running for 10 months, with very, very little trouble from the users. My sincere thanks to everyone who has made this a valuable resource!

Hello there,

I am looking for information on that old Sperry PC (actually
made by Mitsubishi, also sold by Leading Edge), namely Jumper
function, and configuration info. I'd like to know the trick to
have the internal clock hold its time: I can set it, but it resets
every time I turn off the computer. Battery has checked good...

Thanks,
P.O.
