FontGear releases FontGenius for Mac OS X
FontGear (formerly Morrison SoftDesign) has released FontGenius 1.0
for Mac OS X. It's a font identification utility that costs US$39.99
for a single-user license. A demo version is available for download
at the FontGear web site (http://www.FontGear.net).
FontGenius examines pictures and identifies typefaces of any text
within a picture. Using advanced recognition technology, FontGenius
will produce a list of likely fonts that match selected characters
within an image, and will generate character previews of the matched
fonts.
FontGenius can match both installed fonts and uninstalled fonts using
a built-in font profile database. An Internet search can also be
performed on the list of results to locate, purchase, and/or download
matched fonts. FontGenius requires Mac OS 10.3 or higher and runs on
both PowerPC and Intel Macs.

ends with the convergence of multiple ships, all in danger of
colliding with one another, wily pirates and floating icebergs.
"In addition to the usual dock-as-many-as-you-can game play, Sea
Captain introduces strategy and skill through its Captain's Orders
system. The game tracks the number of lines drawn, and calculates
the player's score based on the amount of ships docked as well as the
number of orders required. For those who wish to score big, this
game play feature requires players to carefully think through each...

World's easiest programming language launches on the web
The world's easiest programming language today launched on the Web
with the debut of a free "alpha test" version of revMedia 4.0. This
new version of the company's popular cross-platform development tool
can now deploy to all major browsers on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Users can use revMedia's English-like programming language, revTalk,
to write applications in less time and with less effort than
traditional, more costly Web development tools.
The revWeb authoring environment and revTalk are modern descendents
of natural-language programming technologies such as SmallTalk,
Apple's HyperCard, AppleScript, and Adobe Director Lingo. "HyperCard
was one of the original inspirations for the Web." said Robert
Cailliau, who co-developed the World Wide Web along with Sir Tim
Berners-Lee at CERN. Robert continued, "Today the Web can finally
reach its full potential with a modern, powerful development language
that honors the best ideas from that original concept."

Luxology, Pixologic collaborate on workflow for modo, ZBrush...
Pixologic (http://www.pixologic.com) has just announced its GoZ for
modo feature from Pixologic, which improves the workflow between
ZBrush, Pixologic's premiere organic sculpting and texture tool, and
modo, the 3D modeling, painting and rendering software from Luxology
(http://www.luxology.com).
The two companies worked closely together to optimize the mesh
geometry transfer between these two computer graphics applications to
give users a more seamless and combined workflow, says Brad Peebler,
president and co-founder of Luxology.
GoZ is a feature within ZBrush that automatically transfers mesh
geometry and normal, displacement, and texture maps into modo and
back again. This ability to move between two complementary
applications offers tremendous freedom to artists, who use each
product at different phases of the creative process, says Peebler.
With GoZ, modo can be used to create a base model, such as a human
head, to provide the basic anatomy. This model can then be instantly...
CDFinder for Mac OS X adds cataloging support for Elgato EyeTV
Norbert M. Doerner has updated CDFinder (http://www.cdfinder.de),
software for organizing your disk and data archive and keeping track
of digital media assets, to version 5.6.1. The upgrade adds
cataloging support for Elgato EyeTV recordings, and a street-level
map for the GeoFinder GPS photo search engine.
Since CDFinder now supports Elgato EyeTV recordings (.eyetv), it will
show the thumbnail for the recording, and also extensive metadata as
well, such as the EPG description, director, actors, and much more.
All that is cataloged, displayed, and can be searched as well.
The GeoFinder inside CDFinder now uses the street-level OpenStreetMap
for the GPS search (this requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher). That's
much nicer than the built-in map, but since it requires Internet
access, the old map is still available, says Doerner.
CDFinder requires Mac OS X 10.4 and higher. As a Universal Binary, it
runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel-Macs. A single user license
is US$30, though version 5...

LaserSoft updates SilverFast
LaserSoft Imaging has released SilverFast 6.6.1
(http://www.silverfast.com/highlights/hdri/en.html), an update of the
software for generating perfect raw data from photos and slides.
In order to generate perfect digital RAW data scanned from your
originals, LaserSoft Imaging has developed a new 64 bit HDRi format
for SilverFast 6.6.1 which not only contains complete image data but
also has embedded the dust and scratch information from the scanner's
infrared channel. This new format is the best way to protect your
precious memories against destruction, loss or fading!
The 64 bit HDRi file serves as a starting point for all further image
editing steps - regardless when, where and how. Other approaches
process dust and scratch removal during the scan process itself,
without any possibility to control or influence the process
afterwards.
In any case, this can lead to final loss of fine image details
without the user ever noticing.

eBook designed to teach iPhone developers about marketing
A new eBook from Charles Rose, a programmer and author, was written
to help iPhone app developers market their solutions: "Secrets Of
iPhone App Marketing: How To Get Your App Noticed & Increase Your
Sales."
Rose has been a programmer and technical writer since 1983. The
author of two books for programmers in the 90s, Rose sold his
start-up dot.com business to Digital River in 1999. He enrolled in
the iPhone Developer program in January 2009, and downloaded the
iPhone SDK (software development kit).
It became immediately apparent to Rose that he was going to need more
than an exceptional app to be noticed among the growing pool of
existing applications. He says when he looked online for iPhone app
marketing resources, he came up short. It was this lack of
information that motivated Rose to create his own resource.
The purpose of "Secrets Of iPhone App Marketing: How To Get Your App
Noticed & Increase Your Sales" is to teach App Developers the
importance of a strong...

Triple DES) to prevent unauthorized restore.
The folks at BeLight say that Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256)
should be used as the highest level of protection, while AES-128 is a
good alternative when faster encryption is required and lower
security level is acceptable. Blowfish encryption is thought to be a
happy medium by providing sufficient security and a quick encryption
process.
The update is free for all Get Backup users. For new users the cost

VideoPier, VideoPier HD add support for Elgato's Turbo.264,
Aquafadas (http://www.aquafadas.com) has released VideoPier and
VideoPier HD 1.3, updates of the family of products aimed at
videographers who own MPEG-2 or AVCHD camcorders and who struggle
with these video formats on their Mac. The new version now provides
complete support for Elgato's Turbo.264 and Elgato's Turbo.264 HD.
In addition, the new version offers tools for clip management. It's
now possible to delete clips -- both from the application and the
hard drive. Also, you can now use drag and drop functionality to move
clips from one event to another. Finally, multiple selections are now
made easier with a more intuitive line display and an issue with
decoding video from Sanyo camcorders has been fixed.
VideoPier and VideoPier HD are designed to make it easy to transfer
clips from these camcorders to a central location on their Mac,
without requiring any conversion, without any loss in quality. The
clips appear grouped by Events in the VideoPier user interface, ready
to be viewed...
