Timecode

The method of showing time. EditStudio supports time, SMPTE (non-drop) and SMPTE (drop-frame).

Time Slip (NTSC timecode)

When using the SMPTE non-drop timecode with the NTSC frame rate of 29.97 frames per second, the displayed timecode will differ from "real" time as time advances. This is due to the fact that there are only 29.97 frames per second in NTSC and not 30 as used by the non-drop timecode. The difference between timecode time and real time is time slip.

Tooltip

A tooltip is a small popup window that described the item below the mouse pointer.

Topping

A method of adding a video effect or audio filter to a layer item by applying it direct to the item, rather than adding the effect / filter to a layer above the item.

Type-1 / Type-2 DV File

DV files can be either Type-1 or Type-2 AVI files. A Type-1 AVI file contains just the raw DV video and audio information. A Type-2 AVI file contains the raw DV video and audio information, along with a separate audio track which is a copy of the DV audio.

Most programs which use AVI files expect a separate audio track, and so Type-2 DV files are compatible with a wider range of software than Type-1 files. Type-1 files tend to be slightly smaller (around 5% smaller) than their corresponding Type-2 file, as they don't contain this extra audio track.
