Popular video compression format. MPEG 1 is highly compressed video format, suitable for producing VHS quality video. MPEG 2 is a higher quality format, as used by DVD players. MPEG uses a technique similar to JPEG compression on each frame, but also includes compression across frames by storing intermediate frames based on movement between the next and previous frames. MPEG achieves better compression than MJPEG (which only compresses each frame individually) but requires more processing power to create the MPEG files.
