Apple Delays White iPhone 4 Until "Later This Year"

Making iPhones is harder than it looks. After delaying shipment of the white iPhone 4 models until "late July," Apple has now announced further delay. The statement reads, "White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."favicon follow link

Comments about Apple Delays White iPhone 4 Until "Later This Year"

Huh? There's a lot I don't know about computers, but what's so hard about white? Is this story nonsense to anyone else, or does anyone else understand what's going on behind the scenes here?

This isn't about computers, it's about materials science and manufacturing capabilities. Apple isn't having trouble making the white iPhone function properly; they're having trouble with the materials that comprise the phone's exterior. Exactly what problems those are, they aren't saying, but presumably they're trying to avoid problems with it discoloring or crazing or something similar.
Well, it's "later this year" now. Has anyone heard any new ETA for the white iPhone?
