WIth the update to Firefox 3.6, I have had a problem getting the software to stay opened. I click to move from the startup window to another location and I get the message window saying "Firefox has quit." So, I forwarded it to Apple, etc. and Relaunch.
Unfortunately, upgrading to 3.6.7 and 3.6.8 has not solved this continuing problem on my Mac Pro 2x2 Dual-Core Xeon. Running OSX 10.6.4
How can I clear off all of the related software and get a clean program installed? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
(By the way, Firefox 3.6.7 and 8, work fine on my MacBook Pro, so it must be related to the Mac Pro only.)

I suspect you have some corruption in a support file - check ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/yourprofile for the files.

You might move that entire profile folder out to the Desktop, relaunch Firefox, and see if that solves it. If so, you can try moving bookmark files and whatnot from the old profile folder back into the new one (while Firefox is not running).

With Firefox 3.6.8, OS X10.6.4 file dialog boxes close after 7 to 8 seconds regardless of whether or not I am trying to find a file or a location for saving.

Any ideas what is causing this or if there is a setting somewhere to control this?

That's really weird and is definitely not happening here. So, I can't say that it's not a Firefox bug, but if so, it's more likely some sort of interaction with your system.

I finally found out what was happening. Some faulty javascript on this page www.snapnames.com was causing an error every five seconds. This error causes file dialog boxes to close.
You need to have Adobe flash player installed.
How to test: navigate to www.snapnames.com
On any web page choose an image and selcet "Save image as" the box will close without you taking any other action.
This problem seems to affect the MAC only.

Yesterday morning, using Firefox, I downloaded several documents contained in emails to the desktop (pdf, doc, excel). I printed the documents, then shut the computer down to go to work. When I got to work the docs were no longer on the desktop.

(1) At school, I downloaded them again, restarted the computer, again they vanished.
(2) Fearing a disk problem, I created files and saved them to the desktop to see whether they would vanish (a problem writing them to the disk) and whew, they were there.
(3) Then, using Firefox, I tried to overwrite the "temporary" files to see whether they would remain. Firefox told me that they were read only files and I had to rename them.
When I renamed them, and restarted the computer, they were also there.
(4) Next I tried Safari to confirm that it was not a disk issue. Safari saves all documents appropriately and they remain on the desktop when computer restarts/shuts down
(5) After that, I deleted and reinstalled Firefox. The installation date continues to read July 22, when I first installed the program. Preferences and bookmarks remain from first installation.
(6) This morning I verified and repaired permissions and verified the disk with utilities running from an external Startup DVD. The disk is ok.
(7) Finally, after I changed the location for downloading files several times, office documents remain on the desktop, pdfs disappear.

Any ideas...

No clue, I'm afraid. I've never seen any oddities downloading from Firefox before, but I just put things in the Downloaded folder by default.
