Sleep (and Lock) Your Screen

When you are walking away from your computer, it's fairly common practice to start your screen saver and lock your screen. But did you know that there is a built-in keyboard shortcut in Mac OS X to sleep the screen?

Press Control-Shift-Eject and your monitor sleeps without engaging the screen saver.

Email Security Survey Finds Many Read Spam

ZDNet reports on a survey from the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group that finds a surprising number of people open suspect spam messages and even click on included links or forward the messages. We're not entirely sure what to make of the survey findings overall, but anyone interested in the spam problem would be well served to read the full survey (in PDF, linked in the ZDNet article) and ponder the results.favicon follow link

Comments about Email Security Survey Finds Many Read Spam

Many years ago I created an email address to purchase things like software, amazon etc. I didn't want any spam in my personal email address. Years later I have yet to receive any spam in my "to purchase" address mail box. My personal email address mail box is filled with spam. My theory much of the spam comes from emails with a cc instead of a bcc and friends who went on web pages and put in my personal email address so I can get too good to believe deals, greeting cards etc.

There are lots of places where email addresses can be picked up by spammers. Most legitimate companies are safe, however, which explains your good experience with the purchasing address. The only trouble there would be a disgruntled employee stealing and reselling a list of addresses.
