The Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 4.0 gives you a complete solution for communication and collaboration with others over the Internet and corporate intranets. From great e-mail and Web authoring to unique video conferencing, broadcasting, and application sharing, Internet Explorer 4.0 provides a complete set of best-of-breed tools to allow you to engage in highly effective communications.

Communications

Microsoft also provides additional tools that integrate with and extend beyond the core suite delivered with Internet Explorer 4.0. For instance, if you want a more full-featured messaging client than Outlook Express, you can migrate to its parent: Outlook 97. And if you want richer Web-authoring capabilities than are available with FrontPad, you can likewise move on up to FrontPage 97.

Open suite: While Internet Explorer 4.0 provides top-of-the-line tools in each category of communication, it also remains open so you can plug in other tools—your current e-mail client, for instance—if you feel more comfortable using them.

Check out the following areas where you can use Internet Explorer 4.0 to share ideas and information with others over the Web.

Messaging
Outlook Express is a highly versatile tool for exchanging e-mail and newsgroup messages with individuals and groups. New HTML functionality lets you add graphics, animation, and even multimedia files to your e-mail messages.

Conferencing
NetMeeting, the Internet's premier conferencing tool, lets you hold video and voice conversations, and collaborate with groups of people in real time by sharing software applications, chatting, and sharing a whiteboard that you can draw on with people from around the world.

Broadcasting
NetShow broadcasts high-impact, low-bandwidth video and more to computer desktops for entertainment, training, sales, event coverage, and more.

  Authoring
FrontPad makes it easy for you to create and edit Web pages that you can post on the Internet or an intranet.

Publishing
Web Publishing Wizard steps you through the process of posting your Web site to most any Web server available, while Personal Web Server turns any computer into a Web server and makes it easy for you to publish your own Web page.

Microsoft Chat
Get online and communicate with others using Microsoft Chat. This new kind of chat program lets you decide how your message gets displayed—choose text only or a combination of text with graphical features.
