Internet Explorer demos

One demo is worth a thousand words

Below you'll find a single collection of the many demonstrations you'll find as you click your way through the Internet Explorer 4.0 site. We could write forever about the cool new innovations and features Microsoft is introducing with Internet Explorer 4.0 and Dynamic HTML, but these demonstrations make the benefits immediately clear.

Some of the demos require that you be running the Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 4.0 to view them. Before you download the product, be sure to read the Warning.

Dynamic HTML

The following demos show some of the things that Web authors can now do with Dynamic HTML, by just adding a little JavaScript or VBScript to standard HTML. To learn more about Dynamic HTML and the features used in the following demos, click Dynamic HTML—the key to active Web pages. You need to be running Internet Explorer 4.0 to view these demos. If you haven't installed it yet, click Download in the left column, but be sure to read the warning before you proceed with the download instructions.

  • Lakes & Sons Landscaping. This demo combines a number of Dynamic HTML's key features, including the Object Model and 2-D Positioning. Pass your mouse over any button and you'll see text display. Or test your landscaping skills by moving the trees and shrubs around on the page to change the overall design.
  • Internet Explorer 4.0 Web Site Table of Contents. Pointing and clicking on the listings in this table of contents will reveal several layers of information—plus a refreshing splash of color. Click the title to dynamically display main headings. Then click main headings to display subheadings that link you to pages within the Internet Explorer 4.0 site.
  • Arcadia Bay Company. This demo shows how Dynamic HTML's Data Binding feature lets users access and enter information repeatedly while viewing a page without having to keep hitting the Web server. The setting is a fictitious store where users can browse the aisles, make selections, and manipulate data any way they choose, not ever hitting the server again until they place their order. Take a tour of the store yourself.
  • Best of the Web. Another demonstration of the power of Dynamic HTML's Data Binding. Notice how quickly the pages listed on this site display when you click them. That's because Dynamic HTML delivers all the Best of the Web content when you first download the site. Subsequent clicks display the information instantly, rather than requiring a round-tip to the server—like today's Web pages do—no matter how many pages you view or number of times you filter the information.
  • Lights, camera, action. This demo shows how easy it is to render high-quality, lightweight graphics that are scaleable and can be rotated in three directions.
  • Acrobats with style. Watch how quickly Internet Explorer 4.0 downloads complex animation.
  • What lurks beneath the water? To see true interactivity in action, click anywhere in the water and watch how the fish follows your every mouse command. This demo shows how Dynamic HTML Multimedia Controls allow static images to be set in motion and placed anywhere you want.
  • Blending and fading colors. Dynamic HTML Multimedia Controls are behind the visual elements contained in this demo, which shows how easily graphical elements can be blended and faded in and out using standard HTML text.
  • Transforming Web pages using filters. Select the buttons in this demo to see how you can change the way both text and images display on the page. How'd we do it? By adding various filters to the Web page, which changed the way the HTML elements—including text, controls, intrinsic controls, and images—appeared.

Breakthroughs in multimedia

These demos show how Internet Explorer 4.0 delivers cutting-edge multimedia elements—including state-of-the-art video, sound, and animation—in very small data packages.
