VERMONT

General Information

Vermont, nicknamed the Green Mountain State for its high peaks region in the central part of the state, is slightly larger than New Hampshire in land mass. Bordered by Lake Champlain, Canada, New York and Massachusetts, Vermont is rocky, well timbered, and sparsely populated. The state is also synonymous with snow skiing, with more than 20 alpine ski resorts and over 4,500 skiable acres.

Sport Fishing

Vermont, known to be one of the better trout fisheries in the northeast, has more than 400 lakes and ponds and over 5,000 miles of fishable streams and rivers. Brook trout are native to most all of the coldwater fisheries within the state, and rainbow and brown trout have been introduced to the many rivers in Vermont and adapted with relative success. Landlocked salmon, sturgeon, lake trout, walleye, yellow perch, muskellunge, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, and northern pike all inhabit Lake Champlain to the east.
