Sport Fishing

Pennsylvania's mountain regions in the northeast and northwest provide much of the trout fishing within the state. Numerous creeks, ponds and mountain lakes are fed from snowmelt and natural groundwater and offer good coldwater and warmwater fishing. Many of the state's watersheds are stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout. Kokanee salmon are found in a limited number of the mountain lakes. Smallmouth bass, pickerel, walleye, shad, northern pike, muskie, striped bass, and panfish are found throughout the year and provide quality fishing.

Hunting

Fifty-eight percent of the Commonwealth of "Penns Woods" (Pennsylvania) is covered by forests. Nearly two million acres of this are publicly owned and managed by the state. The state has one of the best-managed white-tailed deer populations in the Northeast, in addition to stable numbers of wild turkey and black bear. Upland game include rabbit, squirrel, ruffed grouse, and ring-necked pheasant. Ducks and geese thrive in the state's thousands of marshes and waterways.
