The General Manager (GM) heads up an organization of about 150 people. The characters' positions in the organization are shown in the following chart. The ellipses indicate repetition: the Portfolio Manager oversees multiple Project Managers; Jane's project has 7 software engineers, one of whom is Travis. Our initial version of this chart had the Domain Analyst and Domain Model Maintainer reporting to a Domain Analysis Project Manager, but as the drama unfolded we found Jane taking on this latter role - hence the dashed line from her to the Domain Analyst.
The remainder of this report describes the successive scenes of the drama. It begins in mid-fiscal year, where (as noted above) the Portfolio Manager's budget is already 25% over projections.
