Bowers Development Enhances AppMaker Support for Tools Plus
Grantham, NH - March 22, 2000 - Bowers Development has posted an update for
AppMaker #12 to add several major features to its Tools Plus code generator.
This update includes support for scripting, custom multi-column lists,
NavServices, proxy icons, and overriding.
With this update, AppMaker generates scriptable applications. It generates
the 'aete' resource, and code to resolve object references, to handle
GetData and SetData events, and to create elements.
Scripting support is free. It is generated automatically from existing
DataDefs in an AppMaker project. Users don't have to do any extra work to
get scriptability because they are already specifying DataDefs for other
purposes.
This update also supports custom multi-column lists. Each row of the list
corresponds to an element of an array. Each column represents an attribute

Syslogd 2.1.6
Syslogd 2.1.6 is now available from

This release includes minor performance enhancements, and fixes a situation
where Syslogd would try to access low memory as well as other bugs. Full
details are in the included Release Notes file.
An incompatibility with Timbuktu seems to have been identified. Running
Timbuktu while running Syslogd may cause Syslogd to randomly crash.
Currently there is no solution to this problem, other than not running
Syslogd and Timbuktu at the same time.
Syslogd for the Mac OS is a syslog compatible Shareware program that will
log messages from network devices (UNIX machines, printers, routers, etc)
including Apple's AirPort Hub. Syslogd also includes support for Mac
applications and AppleScript programs to log messages. Syslogd includes a
graphical administration program that allows for easy configuration and
setup; you do not have to edit a text file with an obscure format.

AppMaker Adds Scripting and Overriding
Grantham, NH - March 5, 2000 - Bowers Development has posted an update for
AppMaker #12 to generate scriptable applications. With this update,
AppMaker generates the 'aete' resource, and code to resolve object
references, to handle GetData and SetData events, and to create elements.
Another new feature in this update is the ability to "override" generated
code with your own code. You can specify an override name for the App, Doc,
windows, dialogs, or DataDefs. AppMaker's generated code will instantiate
your class instead of the standard class. Your override class is assumed to
be a subclass of the standard class. I.e. your code overrides the standard
code. This "override" feature along with previous features helps separate
hand-written code from generated code. It should be possible to never have
to modify generated code.

Collectible: Rare Mac Gaming Leather Jacket
Hi!
I thought you might interested in this. Not exactly hard core developer
news -- but a nice holiday weekend post nevertheless. :)
Back in 1996, the Apple Game Sprockets team made a set of incredibly cool
leather jackets to promote the Mac as a "Serious Game Hardware" machine.
They took a really cool $500 bomber jacket -- and then embroidered them
with a special and fairly complex design on the back. The logo includes a
special camouflage Apple logo, target and game weaponry. (See picture at
URL below)
ONLY 20 of these jackets were made -- and are extremely rare. In fact,
other than the ones that we have/had, I've only seen one other.
MacTech was fortunate enough to get a few of these some time back -- and
the other day, I came across an extra one in my closet at home that had
never been worn.
