APDL Turbo processor upgrade

  • Do you have a Strong ARM RiscPC?
  • Would you like a 20 to 25 percent speed increase?
  • Would you be prepared to pay around £40?
If the answer to these is 'yes' then we may be able to help.
Turbo processor

This is primarily an exchange processor upgrade for any Strong ARM RiscPC. Although it is normally done on an exchange basis we also sell fully guaranteed 276 or 278 Mhz Turbo processors for people who don't already have a Strong ARM or supply new Revision T Turbo processors with or without part-exchange.

The APDL Turbo processor upgrade has a boosted clock rate and other modifications to increase speed and reliability. This method of improving performance has been widely used by enthusiasts, and the Turbo 287 can give a speed increase of between 15 and 30 percent depending on the type of program being run.

Most users are naturally apprehensive about carrying out this type of work. There is the possibility that the processor could be damaged as not all will work reliably at high speed, leaving you with a dead computer and a large bill for a new Strong ARM. The APDL Turbo upgrade removes the risk of running a fast processor. Your Turbo processor upgrade is fully guaranteed for one year so we carry the risk.

If you are exchanging your existing Strong ARM we can usually arrange to send you your new Turbo Processor and then, once you have fitted it and made sure that everything is working properly, you return your old Strong ARM to us. This means you aren't without your computer while your processor is upgraded.

Types of upgrade

The Turbo upgrade is supplied in two versions -
  • Turbo 276 - 276 Mhz upgrade, £33
  • Turbo 287 - 287 Mhz upgrade, £39

Note that the processor we send will be the same model that you already have.

Some comments from users.

"The 287-T installed in a RISC OS 4.02 machine has a truly incredible performance."
   David Coppen

"... things I did measure showed improvements from about 4pc to 55pc."
"My greatest satisfaction came from Fireworkz. RiScript also seems to buzz. e.g. loading the Oregano manual and rendering their front page pic improved by 38.5pc."

   Barrie McElroy

"If I were living state-side, I'd be tempted to describe the APDL upgrade as a 'no-brainer' - that is to say that the decision is very simple."
"... for a very small outlay you get a noticeable speed increase. After several years of owning a 200 or 233Mhz processor, this is a simple and effective method of rejuvenating your system without resorting to feeding it viagra!"
