Hard drives for RISC OS computers

Stocks and prices change rapidly so we often have items not shown on this price list. We also don't bother to list SCSI devices as demand is now extremely small since IDE is much cheaper and faster, although we may have some in stock or be able get them.

Solid state drives and interfaces are now available for most models as an alternative to mechanical drives.

Note that the ArcIn has now been discontinued and we have reduced the price of the ultra-fast Blitz interface. However we do still have a limited number of ArcIn interfaces at just £55 or £50 when purchased with a drive. The ArcIn interface is functionally identical to the Blitz but is slower, around 3.6 Mb/sec, which is still around twice the speed of ADFS on a RiscPC.

We can now supply the STD UniPod either individually or with drives.

3.5" IDE drives.

To fit A310, A400, A540, A4000, A5000, A7000, RiscPC and Iyonix.

Note that many modern drives, in particular those over 40 GB, will not work whan connected to the RiscPC or A7000 motherboard IDE interface. Those marked [1] below can only be used with a 3rd party interface such as a Unipod or APDL Blitz or ArcIn on one of these machines. Those marked [2] can be used when connected to the RiscPC or A7000 motherboard.

Note: The largest hard drive that can currently be used on RISC OS is 128Gb. Larger drives will therefore be supplied formatted to 128Gb. This is still larger than nominal 120Gb drives which are typically around 117Gb when formatted.
Drives up to 40Gb are normally supplied with 'E' format, above 40Gb with 'E+' (RISC OS 4 long filenames).

Drive caddy

• Standard. A compact unit with a key lockable drawer for security.
  Price is £12.50. Please add £3.50 UK carriage, £6.50 outside UK.
• With fan. As above but fitted with a small fan to circulate air over the drive. Use this version if you intend that the drive will be fitted for long periods and not just installed when a backup is undertaken. Because the ventilation in the RiscPC is not very good we advise that this you should fit this version.
  Price is £15.50. Please add £3.50 UK carriage, £6.50 outside UK.

Drive cooler

An adaptor frame to fit a 3.5" drive in a 5" drive bay of a RiscPC. Fitted with a fan to blow cool air over the drive to stop it getting hot in the poorly ventilated RiscPC case. Strongly recommended if you are fitting a 7,200 rpm drive. Available in two versions.

• Low noise. A single fan run at low speed which gives adequate cooling for a 7,200 rpm drive.
• High volume. Twin fans, slightly noisier but with much greater airflow for 10,000 rmp drives or where you have a 'fully loaded' computer with PC card etc. and want extra ventilation.

Solid State drives

We can supply an interface with a 1GB CF card for the A30xx or A4000. An interface with a 1GB Solid State drive to fit A300, A400 etc. machines is also available at the same price, but please contact us first to enquire about the specific model and availablity.

If you already have an interface in your A30xx and just require the CF adaptor and drive then we can sypply this for just £12.90. This will appear as 2 x 500MB partitions if you have an APDL, Baildon Electronics or Simtec interface but other interfaces may not support parttioning so you may see just a single 500MB drive. This can be used as a replacement drive on any interface with a 2.5" IDE drive.

We can also supply kits for the A3020 and A4000 models. For the A4000 this replaces the bulky (and noisy) 3.5" hard drive with a noiseless 500MB Solid State drive. This also has a connector for the HD light. For the A3020 the kit also includes cables and fittings. In both cases an SD card is used as we have found CF to be unreliable on these models. For either model the price is just £17.90 plus £2 UK carriage.

We can supply a kit with a CF card for the A5000 for just £13.90;. This plugs directly into the motherboard socket so you don't need to physially remove the old hard drive, saving a lot of work as you would otherwise need to remove all expansion cards, backplane, etc. Alternatively you can use one of the A7000/RiscPC kits shown below.

For RISC OS 3 the standard RISC OS 3 Utilities and Applications will be installed on the disc so it's ready to run on your machine.

An adaptor with 2GB CF card for the A7000 or RiscPC is available for just £16.90, or with a 4GB CF drive £19.90.
