Desktop Publishing programs and Utilities
This page describes some of our most popular programs used for DTP and wordprocessing under RISC OS.

The original Ovation DTP program. Not in the same class as its big brother by the same author (see above) but still extremely capable and works on any machine with RO 3.1 or better and at least 2Mb RAM. No problems on S/ARM RiscPC's, RO 4, and now, the new version can be used on the Iyonix or A9.
Don't be put off by the outrageously low price. This is a very capable (and easy to use) program. If you can't afford (or don't need) the best then you don't have to struggle and try to make do any more.

FontFX can create a drawing of a text string using outline font designs. A number of special effects are available including colours, shadows, rotation, distortion and others. The finished product is a Draw-format file, which is ideal for use with desktop publishing software.

TypeStudio is a complete text manipulation package which can flow text along paths, mould text to shapes and apply special effects. It can produce professional adverts, posters, banners, logos, letterheads etc. Built-in tools allow lines and curves to be drawn along which text can be flowed to follow any shape. Pairs of lines may be linked to create shapes into which text (and Draw files!) may be moulded. The resulting object can then be scaled, rotated etc. or have a special effect applied to it. A wide range of effects can be applied to text. Three types of shadow, slanted or mirrored in any direction, 3D, plinth and column. Effects may be combined giving endless possibilities.
Designs produced on TypeStudio may be exported as Draw files, or they may be saved in TypeStudio format so that paths, moulds and style attributes are maintained for future editing.

Desktop spelling checker. Can check text files, HTML, etc. Progress is shown in a window and you can substitue the correctly spelled word from the dictionary or correct manually. Easy to add new words and create special dictionaries. Can also check as you type and will 'beep' if you mis-spell a word. Ideal for email! Price is just £9.90 including UK carriage.
