External magnetic fields can considerably impair the monitors picture quality, wherein the Earth's magnetic field plays a central role. In addition to the coloured and dark areas on the screen, the effect of the Earth's magnetic field can cause the entire picture to rotate. 

To continually correct for this undesirable effect, Mitsubishi Electric's DIAMONDTRON monitors include a rotation-compensating function.
