Installing Heretic II Siege

First you need to install v1.0 Client files.
After downloading the client files, extract the H2SiegeClientv1.zip into your heretic ii directory.
ie: C:\Pragram Files\Heretic II\
Note: Does not have to be the C drive.
Make sure the directory structure of the zip is intact. Also make sure the folder name for the mod is called h2siege. Once the you have extracted the files, you much then run the install_models.bat file. This bat file will not work unless the h2siege folder is in your Heretic II folder. The path to the bat file should look like this:
C:\Pragram Files\Heretic II\h2siege\install_models.bat
Note: Does not have to be the C drive.

After installing v1.0 client you have to install v1.1 client update.
Extract the H2Cv1_1updt.zip just unzip it into your Heretic II folder, like you did with v1.0 client. Override any old files when necessary. You can also manually move the files into the h2siege folder.
Be sure to read the H2SiegeClient Readme.txt on more information on installation and other instructions.

If you want to start a server you have to install the v1.1 Server files.
You need the client files in order to make a server.
To install H2SSv1_1.zip you just have to extract it into you heretic II folder, just like you did with the client files. Or you can manually move the files into you h2siege folder.
Be sure to read the H2SiegeServer Readme.txt on more information on installation and new Server variables.

Siege Configuration Details

A general description of how Siege launches. Use the included H2SiegeClient.BAT located in the H2Siege directory. It launches Heretic2.exe with parameters "+set game H2siege" which creates and runs HereticII\H2suser\config.cfg. The next config to run is H2Siege\autoexec.cfg which runs H2Siege\H2Siege.cfg which runs GrailTaunts.cfg. Don't worry, it's not that complicated :-)

First, follow the directions in the "H2SiegeClient Readme.txt" located in the H2Siege directory. When done performing the instructions included in the readme do the following:

1. BACKUP your existing HereticII\user\config.cfg (just in case). I backup files by either creating a "bak" directory below HereticII\user or creating a copy of the config.cfg named config.000 (then if you want to make another backup name it config.001, etc...).

2. edit the HereticII\H2Siege\h2siege.cfg to your liking (this is part of the H2SiegeClient Readme instructions above).

3. run the HereticII\H2Siege\H2SiegeClient.BAT file and let HereticII start up. Then exit HereticII. You should now have a directory below your HereticII directory named "H2suser". This directory now contains a config.cfg that has all default settings.

4. If desired backup HereticII\H2suser\config.cfg by renaming it to config.000 (so you have a backup of the default settings).

5. copy your normal DM/blading HereticII\user\config.cfg into the "H2suser" directory.

6. Run the HereticII\H2Siege\H2SiegeClient.BAT file again. This will place all binding from your HereticII\H2Siege\h2siege.cfg into the HereticII\H2suser\config.cfg.

Your DM/blading HereticII\user\config.cfg should remain untouched as long as you always use the HereticII\H2Siege\H2SiegeClient.BAT file to launch Siege. I have made the mistake of entering Siege using Gamespy which then mixes Siege binding into my normal config.cfg (oops!). That's why I always have a backup of my HereticII\user\config.cfg handy.

To make running Siege even easier create a shortcut on your desktop to run the HereticII\H2Siege\H2SiegeClient.BAT. Go to the HereticII\H2Siege directory (use Explorer or My Computer). Highlight H2SiegeClient.BAT, right click on H2SiegeClient.BAT and select Create Shortcut. Drag and drop the shortcut onto your desktop. Rename the shortcut to "H2 Siege" or whatever desired. I even changed the icon to the shortcut to the H2 icon by right clicking the icon, selecting Properties, click Program tab, click Change Icon, click Browse, find your Heretic2.exe file, click Ok and Ok again.
