We've received a number of tips this morning from readers who say that their credit cards are being charged for pre-ordered Apple TVs. That generally means that they're about to ship. Customers tell us that the charges began to show up overnight and into this morning.

The VipRiser has the same basic functionality as the CUPS-PDF (described in this earlier hint) printing package has, but it is more user friendly and easier to install. You can download the installer here.

Once installed, there's both an application (named VipRiser) and a print driver. You need to create the virtual printer in System Preferences » Print & Fax before using it the first time. Just hit the plus sign and add it. The installer walks you through this. The new printer is named 'Print to VipRiser' and once installed, you just select it like any other printer. The VipRiser application has to be running or the virtual printer will be paused, so you may want to put the application in your Login items.

GooTasks syncs tasks from Google

We all know that trying to sync up tasks from your Google account to your iPhone / iPad can be a laborious, if not impossible, task! And if you didn't know that, ... now you do. The only way to access Google tasks is through mobile Safari or another Web browser. Even Google Mobile App will direct you to the Web-based version of Google tasks, via Safari. And, as it stands, there is no way to access Google tasks on the iOS Mail.app either, only notes can be synced through that.

No one's saying the Web-based version of Google tasks is such a bad thing, but if you're desperate to deal with your Google tasks through an app, with that app feel, shine and shimmer, then check out GooTasks.

GooTasks is a straight forward and very simple app. It allows you to manage, create, edit, and delete Google tasks from...

TUAW's Daily App: Glee Karaoke

Smule has reinvented its official Glee app as Glee Karaoke, specially for the new season of the musical show. Our own Mike Rose enjoyed the first app earlier this year, but this release adds a little competition to the mix -- you can now compete on high score boards for every song, and complete missions in the game to unlock new content and move up the charts. You can also improve your singing by playing with the app -- there's "a touch of pitch correction" in there, and you can get feedback as you sing on just how well you're doing.

The app is cheaper than before, too (just US $0.99 for the original purchase). Songs still have to be purchased separately, but every week, Smule is adding new songs into the mix, so you can keep up with the show during the season.

I have to admit, Smule has...

The Most Comfortable iPad Dock Money Can Buy [...

"HOLLANDIA LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST BED DESIGNED TO WORK WITH IPAD" screams the press release. And much like Kanye's tweets or Mike from the Jersey Shore, I can't quite figure out if I'm laughing at them or with them.

The iCon, the $20,000 iPad dock-bed in question, combines a swanky adjustable mattress from Hollandia and a custom headboard, featuring a built-in iPad dock and a sound system including four speakers and a 250 watt amplifier. So it's definitely a real thing you can buy. But does Hollandia understand just how silly the concept of the "world's first bed designed to work with an iPad" really is? Let's turn to company CEO Avi Barssessat to see what we can glean:

Like the iPad, the iCon Bed is more about a lifestyle choice than it is about a product, and caters to consumers...

Microsoft joins Apple in stance against Blu-ray

Apple has a surprising ally in its campaign of apathy against Sony's Blu-ray disc format. Microsoft, of all companies, has also stepped out with a passive-aggressive stance against the standard, as UK head of Xbox gaming head Steven McGill says that "Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format." He says that Microsoft was right to stick with the older DVD format for its game consoles, and that with the rise of streaming content and the infrastructure to deliver it, there's no longer a need for a disc-based format.

Apple would probably agree, given the recent introduction of the Apple TV and its streaming content possibilities. Apple and Jobs alike have never been interested in...

Apple raking in the mobile profits

While taking a look at the Fortune Magazine online tech blog, I saw some comments by Canaccord Genuity about Apple profits in the mobile market. They are a head-turner.

Apple mobile profits are stunning, and they're even better when compared to the rest of the industry. The really interesting item is that Nokia, Samsung, and LG combined sold about 400 million handsets worldwide for the first six months of the year, and those three firms together garnered 32% of the profits in that sector.

Meanwhile, Apple sold 17 million mobile devices over the same period and snagged 39% of industry profits. Wow! Steve and friends must be doing something right. It's especially notable because Apple wasn't even in the cellphone business until 2007. Sure, Android is coming up fast...

The Pocket God Update Song, by Jonathan Mann

Pocket God is still rolling along. It was one of the first big original iPhone games out there, and more than any other title on the App Store, Bolt Creative has been able to both keep the app popular with constant updates and content additions, and even license the app elsewhere in the form of comics (and presumably other media, if they can swing it).

Here's another example of that -- Bolt posted this video of Steve Jobs' favorite new singer songwriter Jonathan Mann (he of the extremely awkward iPhone Antenna song played at the Apple event a while back) singing a new tune about the game and its fans' constant...

Duly licensed from Sony, this JEOPARDY! game (with mandatory caps and exclamation point, of course) brings the same branded detail as many of the previous versions while completely missing the point of what makes Jeopardy fun.

Why iPads Increase Wine Sales at Restaurants? [Wine]

Some restaurants across the world are now using iPads to show their wine lists. Stupid and overkill, you say? Not if you sell a lot more wine because of it.

In just two weeks, Bone's—which is Atlanta's most famed steakhouse and has 1,350 labels in their catalog—sold 11 percent more wine than in the three weeks previous to the iPad introduction. Like Bone's, many restaurants around the world are having the same experience. Everyone using iPad wine lists seem to be having big sales jumps.

It's not the novelty factor, the Bone's owners and clients say. The reason is simple and logical: Reviews.

Most people don't know most vinos in a restaurant wine list. They may know that certain region and certain winery and certain grape and certain year are considered to be good or bad or just nice enough. But with so many references, most mortals don't have a single...

For the Apple fan who has everything, here's a blockhead bust of Steve Jobs. It's been 3D printed by Dutch artist Metin Seven, and if the urge so hits you, you can buy your own online for just under $120. I'm not entirely sure what the bust is made out of, but 3D printing usually requires a mixture of molding powder and resin that hardens into a kind of brittle claylike material, but of course for display this thing looks fine.

It's not too tall, either -- 14x10x6 cm or so. Sounds perfect for displaying on a desk -- you can have your very own "one more thing" anytime you want.

Though it's disappointingly out of stock until late November, the ThinkGeek TK-421 iPhone Case with Flip-Out Keyboard certainly looks interesting. While its aesthetics and added thickness aren't impressive, the flip-out keyboard works via Bluetooth with your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 to provide the tactile typing sensation that some recovering BlackBerry addicts crave. The $49.99 case is an original ThinkGeek creation and uses its own built-in, rechargeable battery. Now you can text your reason the next time you're not at your post.

If you're a regular reader of the Sports Illustrated (SI) publication for the iPad, you may have noticed something unusual / different in the latest issue. The key to good writing, they say, is focus, and the guiding principle of Writer was to minimize distractions. That means no autocorrection, no scroll bars, and no cut and paste. Jeffrey Fidacaro with Susquehanna Financial Group has claimed that Apple is prepared to begin assembling CDMA iPhones in December, and will produce 3 million units for a 2011 launch -- such phones would obviously be intended for a CDMA carrier like Verizon or Sprint.

Furthermore, as AI reports, Fidacaro expects Apple to crank out 11.6 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of FY 2010, which would be a new record for Apple, and a 39% increase from Q3 in FY 2010.

Such a production schedule would produce between 21 million and 22 million GSM and CDMA iPhones for the quarter. That seems like an awfully ambitious number, as manufacturers struggle to fill orders in...
