According to a recent newspaper report there are more than 500,000 stray dogs in Morocco's streets, most of them with rabies. Rabies has been reported in Oujda, Jerada, Nador, Khouribga, Casablanca and Marrakech. This doesn't mean you should cancel your trip to Morocco - the chance of contracting rabies is small. But do give any dog you see plenty of space whether they look a bit rabid or not. If you do get bitten or scratched by a dog, scrub the bite thoroughly with soap, apply alcohol or iodine and see a doctor.
