Image Maps

Here we show you how to create and use client side Image Maps on your web pages. In February's magazine you'll find step-by-step, simple instructions on creating an image map from a graphic. There are even copies of the graphics we've used on the cover disc.

This is the image map with its links to the pages from Parts 1 - 5 of this series and a link to the PCUser home page.

Here is an text alternative :

You should provide these for users who do not use graphic browsers.

To view this page's source document:

  • If you are using Netscape, use View, Document Source.
  • If you are using Internet Explorer, use View, Source.

A second map example:

In this example the three possible, different shaped clickable areas have been used. There is a circle, a rectangle and a polygon.

Hold your mouse pointer over each of the shapes. Notice how the pointer changes to the shape of a hand when placed over a clickable area and you can read the URL details in the status line.
