[MD1]We apologize...
As you know, you've gotten a handful of e-mails from MacDev-1 regarding Mac OS development news. The original list for MacDev-1 was seeded with press and influence makers names drawn from companies all over the community. It was never the intention to send MacDev-1 msgs to any mailing list -- that would be poor netiquette. It took us a bit to figure this one out because only one person was complaining (that we know of). But, in the end, he shed some very useful light on it being the tools-hackers address that was the recipient. That address will be removed later this morning (when I get into the office). You shouldn't receive any more MacDev-1 messages through tools-hackers -- but if you do, let us know (there must be another address). If you are interested in continuing to find out about Mac OS news, you will need to subscribe to MacDev-1 individually. To subscribe to MacDev-1, send e-mail to: macjordomo@listmail.xplain.com with sub MacDev-1 yourname in the body of the...

[MD1]URG- New DevSupport Addr
Dear Developer, As many of you are already aware, over the last two weeks Apple has been dealing with a significant to complete disruption of service in our AppleLink-Internet electronic mail gateway, primarily due to failure of the supporting hardware. Apple IS&T has been working around the clock to resolve these continuing problems, but additional complications have kept us from the goal of restored service. Because it is critically important that we maintain open communications channels with our developers, we have decided that to accelerate the timetable of our planned transition to Internet-based email as our primary communications media. Effective immediately, we have changed our email address to: devsupport@apple.com If you have sent email to devsupport@applelink.apple.com in the past two weeks, there is a substantial chance that we have not yet received it (note: we do not believe that the email has been lost, but we are currently unable to access it). [MD1]Bare Bones & UserLand
Here's an announcement from Bare Bones Software and UserLand. The announcement is at (http://www.scripting.com/goodies/odbtexteditor.html). This new software is the result of a collaboration between Bare Bones and UserLand. It creates an easy and intuitive way to edit text stored in Frontier's object database with BBEdit 4.0, the leading HTML editing tool on the Mac. Imagine a pipe starting with BBEdit and connecting to WebStar and via FTP to Unix and Windows servers. This is one end of the pipe. We're also working with Chuck Shotton, and should have an announcement and a new software release next week. The protocol is open and fully documented on the website and in source code in the package. We encourage other editing and database vendors to implement the protocol. It's an easy one to support. It took me half a day to do the Frontier side of the protocol. As with all the new connections we're developing in conjunction with other Mac developers, this capability has no counterpart on...
