YELLOW DOG & BLACK LAB TO INCLUDE FSMLABS REALTIME LINUX
Loveland, Colorado; Socorro, New Mexico -- 10 July 2000 -- FSMLabs Inc. and
Terra Soft Solutions, Inc. announced today that RTLinux for the PowerPC
will be carried on the next release of Terra Soft's Black Lab Linux and in
future releases of Champion Server. RTLinux adds hard realtime capabilities
to Linux, so that Linux can be used to control machine tools, robots, data
acquisition devices, telecommunications switches, and other machinery where
software must satisfy precise timing constraints.

RTLinux on the PowerPC offers realtime interrupt handlers with worst case
latencies under 14 microseconds and precise periodic thread scheduling.
RTLinux follows the POSIX 1003.13 PSE51 profile: it is a small, highly
optimized, realtime kernel where the POSIX threads and signals API's
available to support hard realtime applications running close to the bare
machine.RTLinux runs Linux as its lowest priority thread. Realtime threads
use signals, shared memory and a read/write device interface to communicate
with Linux user processes so that application developers are able to draw
on the full power of Linux for everything from networking to data bases,
without sacrificing realtime performance.
RTLinux users include NASA, Compaq, the Jim Henson Muppet Factory, and
numerous manufacturers of machine tools and robotic systems.
