XLR8 and Mac OS X

XLR8 and Mac OS X

XLR8 and Mac OS X are compatible!

with MACh Speed G4 ZIF MPe today, you can have MP tomorrow...
Does your upgrade offer this?

Atlanta, GA, USA. March 24th 2001: XLR8, the leading manufacturer of
Macintosh upgrade and expansion products, is pleased to announce
support for the latest Apple operating system, Mac OS X. XLR8 is
committed to providing solutions that compliment what is without
doubt the best operating system in the world.

With XLR8's modular power users can upgrade to G4 today with the MACh
Speed G4 ZIF MPe install and run Mac OS X straight out of the box
with no further software required, due to the advanced engineering of
XLR8 products. At a later date users can step up to multi-processing
using the recently announced MACh Velocity G4 MPe 66 upgrade (for
beige G3 systems).

Today XLR8 is the only upgrade manufacturer offering Mac OS X support
with an upgrade path to multiprocessing that includes the users'
current investment. The message is simple... do not waste your money,
upgrade to the future today, an investment in a non MPe upgrade is
not an investment.

All XLR8 upgrades will install and run under OS X in machines that
are officially supported by Apple Computer. In this case the machines
are beige G3 desktop/towers, blue & white systems and early zif based
graphite G4 systems (non AGP graphics).

"Mac OS X automatically enables the backside cache at 2:1," says
Chris Cooksey, Director of Engineering at XLR8. "All XLR8 cards
support 2:1 caches. We are one of the few vendors that have done this
universally, so customers can rest-assured that their upgrade will
get the maximum performance even without additional software."

Users with MACh Speed G4 ZIF MPe upgrades will therefore be able to
take advantage of the power of Mac OS X today.

A new MACh OS X control panel will be released shortly that will
enable the user to manipulate the cache and view system statistics.
The latest version of the MACh control panel (MSC 2.0) with its' new
graphical interface is a big indication of what the new control panel
will look like (version 2.0 now ships as standard with all XLR8
upgrades).

Mac OS X and the MACh Velocity Upgrade
The XLR8 MACh Velocity G4 MPe card has been designed to work under
Mac OS X and to take advantage of the embedded support for
multiprocessing. Today the XLR8 MACh Velocity G4 MPe card will
install and boot under Mac OS X. In both the native OS X environment
and the classic environment at this point in time only one of the
processors will function (the one in the lif socket).

XLR8 is committed to Mac OS X and has developed the XLR8 MACh
Velocity G4 MPe on the basis of the new operating system; part of
this commitment involves creating a whole new driver to do OS X
justice. We will therefore release our MACh control panel for OS X in
Q2 2001.

"Mac OS X is a fantastic new operating system that will lead to big
improvements in productivity especially as more carbonised
applications are released," says Jack Kolk, General Manager of XLR8.
"At XLR8 we are committed to bringing our customers the solutions
that they demand, this includes multiprocessing solutions for the
megahertz hungry professional."

"70% of the sites that we track use beige G3 systems as a production
workhorse. These customers are upgrading to our MACh Speed G4 ZIF MPe
safe in the knowledge that they can run Mac OS X today and then get
even more performance by adding the MACh Velocity G4 MPe. They love
the fact that they can continue to upgrade their upgrades into the
future."

Users should watch the press and look at XLR8.com for announcements
relating to the availability of the new drivers.
