Water's Edge Puts Tools Plus Pro Source Code in Open Source

Water's Edge Software Released Tools Plus Pro Source Code in Open Source
Program

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO - SEPTEMBER 3, 2001 - Water's Edge Software, makers of
the award-winning Tools Plus Pro libraries + framework, announced an Open
Source program in which source code for their Tools Plus Pro and SuperCDEFs
products will be made available to existing customers, and to new customers
who purchase the current version, Tools Plus Pro 5. Tools Plus Pro 6 is
expected to start shipping at the end of September 2001.

Tools Plus Pro libraries + framework allow you to quickly build
applications and plug-ins, with a minimal amount of source code, using
CodeWarrior C/C++ and Pascal compilers, as well as Symantec's discontinued
Symantec C/C++, THINK C/C++, and THINK Pascal compilers.

Important Details about Tools Plus Pro 6 and SuperCDEFs
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````
o Source code for Tools Plus Pro and SuperCDEFs is written in Pascal.
o Tools Plus Pro source code is compiled into object code libraries
that can be used by programmers who are developing applications and
plug-ins* using any of the following compilers:
CodeWarrior C/C++ (68K or PPC) from the CW6 CD or later,
including CodeWarrior Pro
CodeWarrior Pascal (68K or PPC) from the CW6 CD or later,
including CodeWarrior Pro
THINK C/C++ 5.0.4 or later (68K)
THINK C/C++ 6.0.1 or later (68K)
THINK C/C++ 7.0 or later (68K)
Symantec C/C++ 8.0.5 or later (68K, Symantec Project Manager,
also called SPM)
Symantec C/C++ 8.6 or later (PPC, Symantec Project Manager,
also called SPM)
THINK Pascal 4.0.2 or later (68K)
*CodeWarrior is required to write plug-ins.
o Tools Plus Pro source code, and SuperCDEFs source code compiles
unaltered using THINK Pascal 4.0.2 and its related interface files
and libraries.
o Tools Plus Pro source code, and SuperCDEFs source code compiles
unaltered using CodeWarrior 10 and its interface files and
libraries, plus the first netbound patch issued by Metrowerks for
that IDE. Note that you must install the Pascal compiler and
related components, which is not the default IDE installation.
o Metrowerks is committed to delivering a modern Pascal compiler in
short order. This new compiler includes interface files to
Mac OS X, and will allow you to compile Tools Plus Pro source code
to object libraries that can be used in applications that will run
on Mac OS X. Please contact Metrowerks for details.
o Tools Plus Pro and SuperCDEFs source code is based on "Classic"
APIs. You will need to update the source code to take advantage
of newer APIs, such as those for Mac OS X. When "Carbonizing"
Tools Plus, or adapting it for Mac OS X, you will need to revise
portions of the code to take advantage of new features.
o Tools Plus Pro 5 source code is included.
o Tools Plus Pro 6 is in beta form.
o Water's Edge Software has no plans in place to further develop
Tools Plus Pro or SuperCDEFs.
o Water's Edge Software hosts a Tools Plus Developer Forum via a list
server, thereby allowing developers to work collaboratively to
continue evolving Tools Plus Pro libraries + framework.
Tools Plus Pro 5 is available for US$199, and includes a free upgrade to
Tools Plus Pro 6 which will ship at the end of September 2001. Full details
