UpdateAgent X for Mac OS X

UpdateAgent X for Mac OS X

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INSIDER UPDATEAGENT MAKES CONVERTING TO MAC OS X APPLICATIONS EASY
Users Can Update Applications for Modern OS Automatically

May 1, 2001 [Carlsbad, California] Insider Software today announced the
release of UpdateAgent X, a new version of the five-mouse rated Macintosh
software updating service for the Mac OS X operating system. With
UpdateAgent X, users can automatically download the latest carbonized
versions of their favorite software.

"The only way to take advantage of Mac OS X is to have Carbon or Cocoa
versions of the applications you use," remarked Rio Sabadicci, president of
Insider Software. "UpdateAgent X is the only way to automatically receive
OS X-savvy applications as soon as they become available. There is no
faster path to Mac OS X."

SUPPORT FOR CLASSIC, CARBON AND COCOA APPLICATIONS The Mac OS X operating
system provides protected-memory and pre-emptive multitasking. When an
application that takes advantage of these capabilities crashes, it does not
crash the rest of the system, which was common in earlier versions of Mac
OS.

Applications written without protected-mode support are called "Classic"
apps, while those including it are "Carbon" applications. Applications
written exclusively for Mac OS X systems are termed "Cocoa" applications.
The initial release of UpdateAgent X updates Classic and Carbon
applications. Insider will add support for Cocoa apps and existing users of
UpdateAgent X will receive the new functionality for free.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
A demo version of UpdateAgent X displays all files required to bring a
system's applications up-to-date and downloads all Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9, and
Mac OS X updates for free. The full version of UpdateAgent X downloads all
updaters for every third-party application and costs $49.95 US for a full
year of Internet-based updates. Mac OS 9 and MacOS X users should download
UpdateAgent X, while users of Mac OS 7 and 8 should use the current
UpdateAgent 8.1. All versions are available for download from
www.insidersoftware.com.

ABOUT INSIDER UPDATEAGENT
Insider UpdateAgent brings every application and operating system program
on a Macintosh system current with the latest updates for over 5,000
products. After determining precisely which updaters are required to bring
a system up-to-date, UpdateAgent downloads the updaters over the Internet
or copies them from CDs. The program can run automatically at regular
intervals, maintains the confidentiality of users' hard drive contents, and
provides hot web links to vendors' web sites.

INDUSTRY PRAISE FOR INSIDER UPDATEAGENT
Insider UpdateAgent's advanced capabilities have earned it coveted
five-mouse rating from ZDnet, a five-disk rating from MacReview, and
Freakin' Awesome rating from MacAddict.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Insider UpdateAgent requires three megabytes of memory to run on the
Macintosh system being updated, as well as whatever disk space is required
to store any relevant updaters.
