Suitable Systems Releases SMSLib, an Open-Source Sudden Motion Sensor Library

- Toolkit makes it easy to write software for Apple Computer's SMS -

WAKEFIELD, MA (November 27, 2006) - Suitable Systems has released
SMSLib, the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) access toolkit behind the
company's popular SeisMac and SeisMaCalibrate applications. SMSLib
makes it easy to write software that reads the SMS accelerometers
included on all recent Apple Macintosh laptops. And, once a user has
calibrated his laptop's SMS using Suitable Systems' SeisMaCalibrate
application, every SMSLib-based application will be able to use the
stored calibration values.

Hundreds of SeisMaCalibrate users have submitted calibration records
covering ten different models of Apple Computer Macintosh laptop
computers. By reviewing these records, Suitable Systems has been able
to greatly improved the default calibration values embedded within
SMSLib. The library now works on every SMS-equipped laptop Apple has
ever released. Suitable Systems has also released new versions of
SeisMac and SeisMaCalibrate built on this updated library.

Included with SMSLib is smsutil, a command-line tool that reads and
outputs three-axis accelerations. "Many SeisMac users have asked for
a way to save the displayed seismic data", said company president
Daniel Griscom. "Now, with smsutil and the Terminal, you can save
seismic data for later use in any application." Source code for
smsutil is also included, and serves as an example of how to use
SMSLib.

SMSLib is being released under the University of Illinois/NCSA Open
Source License. For more information about SMSLib, visit

About SeisMac and SeisMaCalibrate

SeisMac is the free software tool that accesses your Macintosh
laptop's Sudden Motion Sensor in order to display real-time,
three-axis acceleration graphs. SeisMaCalibrate is the companion
application that precisely calibrates your Sudden Motion Sensor,
storing the calibration for later use by any SMSLib-based
application. For more information, visit
