NEW YORK - August 21, 2002 - Runtime Labs, a premiere provider of Mac
database tools, today announced the release and immediate availability of
MacSQL 2.5. MacSQL is a robust solution for database management on the
Macintosh. A fully AppleScriptable application, MacSQL provides web
authors, publishers, and developers with a simple, graphical way to
interact with SQL databases.

"MacSQL 2.5 is the first commercial MacOS X product with native support for
communicating with Oracle," said Mark Lilback, President of Runtime Labs.
"MacSQL 2.5 represents a significant step forward for all Macintosh users
who want to interact with Oracle databases running on any platform."

MacSQL 2.5 includes many new and upgraded features from MacSQL 2.2:

* Ability to connect to FrontBase, Microsoft SQL Server,
MySQL, OpenBase, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and ODBC database
servers.
* Runs natively on MacOS 9 and MacOS X (10.1 or higher).
* Spreadsheet-like viewing/editing of remote data.
* Complete AppleScript support including recordability and the
ability to save frequently used queries as scripts for later
execution.
* Web Script Assistant that will generate PHP or Embeded Perl
to interact with a database.
* Multi-panel display of schema including databases, tables,
columns, and indices.
* Ability to export data as SQL commands, tab-delimited text,
comma-separated text, XML, or directly to Microsoft Excel.
* Import of SQL files and data in CSV or Tab-delimited text
files.
* Synchronization between SQL databases and FileMaker Pro.
* Create Table Tool to help visually design tables.
* Recent documents for easy access to frequently used
databases.
* Comprehensive user manual and tutorial.
* Free upgrades for one year.
* Telephone and email support.
* Extensive support for MacOS technologies such as Aqua,
AppleScript, Navigation Services, Contextual Menus,
Keychain, Drag & Drop, and more.

Features new to MacSQL 2.5 include:

* Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar) compatible
* Native Oracle support on Mac OS X (using officially
released Oracle drivers)
* OpenBase support on Mac OS X
* Full Unicode support for making queries
* Full BLOB support via AppleScript
* XML Export
* Enhanced Query Assistant
* Redesigned settings panel
* Ability to adjust the font settings in the Query Maker
* Numerous bug fixes and performance improvements

MacSQL is commercial software, and costs US$249 to purchase. A Lite version
is available for US$99. A demo version, which expires after 10 days, is
also available.

MacSQL requires a PowerPC computer running MacOS 9.x with CarbonLib 1.5 or
greater installed, or a computer running Mac OS X 10.1 or greater. Access
to a supported database is also required to use the program. Oracle support
requires installing native drivers (instructions are included in MacSQL's
Help). FrontBase support on Mac OS X requires that the Frontbase drivers be
installed. OpenBase support on Mac OS X requires that the OpenBase drivers
be installed. ODBC support on Mac OS 9 requires the Merant ODBC Driver
Manager 3.5.

MacSQL 2.5 and MacSQL 2.5 Lite can be purchased at

Current MacSQL 2.2 license holders (full versions) can upgrade to 2.5 at no
cost by downloading the latest version and utlizing their current serial
number. Current MacSQL 2.2 license holders (Lite version) can purchase the
upgrade for US$49 at (http://www.rtlabs.com/store/). Free upgrades are
available for reigstered users of MacSQL Lite who purchased the software
after June 15, 2002.
