[NPL] Stalker Releases CommuniGate 3.0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STALKER SOFTWARE EXPANDS COMMUNIGATE'S FUNCTIONALITY WITH THEIR NEW 3.0 RELEASE

Key features: New Blacklisting (RBL) implementation, Dial-Up Connectivity,
Faxing Over the Internet, E-Mail-On-Demand, Paging and More.

MILL VALLEY, Calif., November 23rd, 1998 - Stalker Software Inc. today
announced their latest release of CommuniGate, an advanced, Mac OS Intranet
and Internet messaging system. Since its first release in September 1995,
CommuniGate is still recognized as the only integrated messaging system
supporting LAN, Internet E-mail, network Fax, Paging, IMAP, Lists and more.

Improved Anti-Spam Features

During the past year Stalker Software has released two new Internet Mail
Servers, Stalker Internet Mail Server (SIMS) for the Ma cOS and the
industry strength mail server, CommuniGate Pro supporting most major
platforms including Apple's upcoming Mac OS X Server.

For these new servers, Stalker has developed and implemented that latest
technologies against SPAM and is regarded as having the best known
Anti-spam features available on the market today. Stalker has now
incorporated the Anti- spam functionalities of SIMS and the CommuniGate Pro
Mail Server into the SMTP Module of the CommuniGate Messaging System for
the Mac OS.

Similar to SIMS, in the new CommuniGate SMTP module, the name of a
real-time black listing server (RBL) can be entered in the SMTP module
settings. When CommuniGate receives mail from a remote host, it checks not
only its own black list, but consults the black-listing server, too. If the
sending host is included into the blacklisting server tables, messages from
that host are not accepted. The entire process is automatic and allows all
mail server administrators to centralize and to distribute their knowledge
about offending sites. Since the blacklisting servers are implemented using
the existing DNS technology and software, several servers are already
available on the Net, and they can be used with the CommuniGate mail
server.

The new SMTP module also adds the remote-path verification and on-the-fly
relay checking features.

Improved Handling of MIME Messages For Relay

CommuniGate for the MacOS uses its own internal format for messages.
Incoming Internet messages were converted into that format so the
CommuniGate client software could read them. In today's world, various
Internet-based mail clients are used. These clients needed to have access
to the original Internet message format (MIME). Stalker has now implemented
the RFC Industry MIME standards, so any mail relayed through the server is
now passed on in its original format as well as stored on the server in
CommuniGate's own format. This now allows users more flexibility in
choosing client applications to be used with the CommuniGate Server.

In addition, MIME encoding of embedded PICTs has been changed to make it
compatible with other programs like CyberDog and to make text-only mailers
such as Eudora, and QuickMail store the PICT objects as PICT files.

Additional Administrative Enhancements

The new release of the CommuniGate server adds more features making the
administrative tasks still easier to perform. The new Server uses the
PowerKey(TM) daemon as a watch dog. In addition, VICOM Internet Gateway is
explicitly supported now. Along with better administrative features, more
user upgrades including new Server-wide Rules and additional logging
functions have also been implemented.

Upgrading

Since CommuniGate is a modular based system, upgrading the CommuniGate
Server and the SMTP module will be separate. The new CommuniGate Server
upgrade with all new administrative and relaying enhancements will be a 30%
fee of the original purchase price for those who purchased the server
before October 1997. To take advantage of the Anti-spam features in the new
SMTP module there will be a flat $50.00 charge. For all CommuniGate Servers
purchased after October 1997, the new CommuniGate Server 3.0 and the new
SMTP module will be upgraded for free.

As always a fully functional, 5-user trial version of CommuniGate with all
messaging gateways, is available for free from the Stalker web server at
http://www.stalker.com.
