[NPL] PowerLogix G4: PhotoShop 5.5 AltiVec Compatibility

POWERLOGIX ANNOUNCES FULL PHOTOSHOP 5.5 AltiVec COMPATIBILITY WITH
POWERFORCE G4

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- October 1, 1999 -- PowerLogix, first to demonstrate G4
processor upgrades for PowerMacs, and first to demonstrate a G4 fix for B&W
G3s, today announced another G4 first: the completion of development of
full AltiVec compatibility under PhotoShop 5.5 when using a G4 upgrade card.

"PhotoShop is by far the most important application at this time with
regards to the G4 with the AltiVec processor," said Robert Jagitsch,
President of PowerLogix R&D, Inc. "We have now finished development of our
AltiVec enabler software which allows any PowerMac that can accept a G4
chip to fully utilize all optimized AltiVec plug-ins for PhotoShop. It is
fully compatible under both Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OS 9."

AltiVec benchmarks indicate that PowerMacs such as the 7500, all the way to
the most recent B&W G3, can perform at speeds equivalent or beyond the new
PowerMac G4s from Apple.

"We created a macro with a large range of typical PhotoShop operations and
found that on identically equipped machines, a 4 year old PowerMac 7500
with a G4 could virtually match a brand new PowerMac G4," said Marc Reviel,
VP of Engineering. "Some functions showed almost 2 and 1/2 times the
performance of an equivalent speed PowerMac B&W G3."

"This gives users a much more economical way to move up to the latest
processor technology, while preserving their existing hardware investment
in RAM and other peripherals," said George Cole, Product Evangelist at
PowerLogix.

The compatibility software will ship with all models of the PowerForce G4
which will begin shipments this month. The PowerForce G4 is available in
models for the following machines:

PowerMac G3 (all models of beige and B&W with or without firmware update);
G3 "All-in-One"; PowerMac 7300 to the 9600; Power Computing PowerBase,
PowerWave and PowerTower Pro; UMAX S900 and J700; DayStar Genesis (720+)
and Millenium. (Power Computing PowerTower, PowerCenter, & PowerCenter Pro
are not compatible with the G4 processor.)

PowerLogix continues to produce the award-winning PowerForce G3 products as
well, from the economical 250 MHz model all the way to the blazingly fast
500 MHz model.
