OPEN DOOR NETWORKS ANNOUNCES SECURITY SUITES FOR LEADING MACINTOSH SERVERS

INTEGRATED TOOLS FURTHER SECURE APPLESHARE IP AND WEBSTAR

ASHLAND, OR. - October 26, 1998-- Open Door Networks Inc. today announced
integrated "Security Suites" for the two leading Macintosh servers:
AppleShare IP and WebSTAR. The Security Suite for AppleShare IP and the
Security Suite for WebSTAR include tools, templates and documentation
intended to further enhance the security of these two popular servers.

"The Mac OS is one of the most secure operating systems around," said Alan
Oppenheimer, president of Open Door Networks. "Due to this high built-in
level of security, however, certain aspects of Mac OS servers actually lag
behind other systems when it comes to security. Our Security Suites combine
the benefits of the Mac OS with innovations from other systems to create an
even more secure server environment. At the same time the Suites maintain
the Mac's traditional ease-of-use advantages over these systems."

The Security Suites are centered around Open Door's recently-introduced
DoorStop firewall software. DoorStop is an easy to use server-based
application which lets server administrators restrict access to individual
services based on the IP address of the client. DoorStop can also log all
connections and connections attempts. The Suites also include Open Door's
industry-leading LogDoor Real-time Server Monitor, which analyzes a
server's log files in real time, providing the up-to-the-minute data which
an administrator needs to monitor server access and access attempts.

The Security Suite for WebSTAR also includes Open Door's ShareWay IP
Gateway, Personal Edition, which adds IP-based AFP (AppleTalk Filing
Protocol) accessibility to WebSTAR. IP-based AFP minimizes the need for the
highly insecure File Transfer Protocol (FTP. FTP is often used for site
maintenance and is a major security hole for Mac-based servers. IP-based
AFP is already built into AppleShare IP. The Security Suite for AppleShare
IP also includes Open Door's AFP Logger product, which provides detailed
logging and monitoring of AFP accesses.

Both Suites are rounded out with advanced technical documentation and
template files. These files provide a step-by-step guide to installing and
using Suite components, an excellent starting point for establishing
base-level security, and critical fundamental background as to some of the
more significant Internet security issues.

In addition to being essential add-ons for Macintosh servers in their own
right, the Security Suites also serve as key components in the ongoing
migration of Macintosh networks from AppleTalk to IP protocols. As that
migration accelerates, the intrinsic security of AppleTalk can be
compromised if additional measures, such as installation of the Security
Suite on servers, are not undertaken. The Security Suites work particularly
well in combination with Open Door's AppleTalk to IP Migration Suite.

The Security Suites for both WebSTAR and AppleShare IP are priced at $479,
$349 for educational institutions, and are available immediately. Current
owners of DoorStop, LogDoor or AFP Logger can upgrade to full Suites for
$279, $179 educational. Evaluation versions of the components of the Suite
are available from Open Door's Web site at http://www.opendoor.com.
Additional details on the Suites are available at
