DANTZ ANNOUNCES INTERNET BACKUP

Partnerships Make Retrospect 4.1 Perfect Solution for iMac, Businesses

ORINDA, CA-October 6, 1998-Dantz Development Corporation announced today
Internet backup for all Macintosh computer users, including users of the
exciting new iMac.

New Retrospect version 4.1 allows backups to be stored using the Internet
in addition to the more familiar storage devices of disk, cartridge, and
tape. Dantz is certifying independent Internet Backup Sites to provide the
secure storage space needed for Internet backups. The combination of
Retrospect 4.1 and a certified Independent Backup Site makes backing up
over the Internet easy and affordable for both consumer and business
Macintosh customers.

"Retrospect is a great solution for our customers," said Phil Schiller,
vice president Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple Computer, Inc. "No
Macintosh user should ever lose data: iMac customers can back up critical
files over the Internet, and business customers can effortlessly integrate
Internet backups for additional security."

Retrospect 4.1 users can easily set up Internet backups by running
Retrospect's EasyScript feature. Any user without an established Internet
backup destination can just click a button to sign up with a Dantz
certified Internet Backup Site.

"A lot of people will not have access to their own Internet Backup Site, so
we've created a certification program to assist customers in finding safe
and secure Internet storage," said Craig Isaacs, vice president Sales &
Marketing for Dantz. "Of course, Retrospect will work with any FTP
destination, so educational institutions and large organizations can
quickly and easily set up Internet backup services for students or mobile
professionals."

DANTZ CERTIFICATION

The criteria for becoming a Dantz Certified Internet Backup Site are
stringent. Certified Internet Backup Sites must commit to:

1. Maintain high standards of quality, security, and customer service.
2. Maintain an Internet connection fast enough to service all their
customers.
3. Maintain a backup plan that includes daily, rotating, off-site
backups.
4. Keep servers in secure locations with limited card-key access and
alarm systems.
5. Develop a disaster recovery plan.
6. Monitor servers all day, every day, for downtime and problems.
7. Maintain UPS systems for continued service during power interruptions.
8. Use server software and configurations tested and certified by
DantzLab.

One Internet Backup Sites has met all of the certification criteria:
Digital Forest. Digital Forest offers a range of services to accommodate
everything from iMac users to workgroup servers. Others will be added as
they are qualified.
