Apple Ships WebObjects 4 for Windows NT and UNIX Platforms

Best Selling Application Server Includes Advanced Java Support and Fast
'Direct to Web' Code Free Development

CUPERTINO, California--Nov. 30, 1998--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
the availability of WebObjects 4 application server software for Windows NT
and UNIX platforms. While adding extensive Java support, this major upgrade
to WebObjects cuts application deployment time by offering 'Direct to Web'
pre-built reusable software modules and dramatically improved performance.
In addition, WebObject 4's pricing structure--based on the number of
transactions or processors used in the application--allows developers to
get up and running with WebObjects for as little as $1,499.

"WebObjects, with thousands of blue-chip customers, is the platform of
choice for developing robust and scaleable web applications," said Philip
Schiller, Apple's vice president of worldwide product marketing.
"WebObjects pioneered the application server software market and this
version ensures it will continue to lead the category in sales and
innovation."

Java support in WebObjects 4 includes new debugging features and a Java
project builder assistant. Also included is a "direct-to-web" code free
development assistant that integrates built-in reusable components so
developers can create and post web applications more quickly without
writing additional code. The product now has faster transactional
processing--five times faster than the previous version--that allows web
pages to load more quickly on sites using WebObjects 4.

Also new in WebObjects 4 is multi-threaded application support, which
centralizes administrative tasks to improve application scalability, and
enhanced monitoring that allows developers to create their own methods of
measuring performance of the Internet application. Pricing for WebObjects 4
starts at $1,499. For higher performance servers, customers can purchase
different levels, based upon the number of processors used in the
application--ranging from $7,500 to $50,000 per server.

WebObjects is the industry's leading platform for developing and deploying
high performance, large-scale Internet and intranet sites. Its more than
3,000 customers worldwide include Aetna US Healthcare, the British
Broadcasting Corporation, MCI, Nortel, Standards and Poors, and the U.S.
Postal Service. WebObjects 4 for Power PC G3 systems is planned to support
Mac OS X Server in 1999.

Apple Computer, Inc. ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s
with the Apple II, and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with
the Macintosh. Apple is now recommitted to its original mission--to bring
the best personal computing products and support to students, educators,
designers, scientists, engineers, businesspersons and consumers in over 140
countries around the world.
