NetGear announces net networking, powerline and NAS products

NetGear (http://www.netgear.com) has announced two new networking accessories for home theaters, as well as new networking accessories and NAS products.

The High-Performance Wireless-N HD Home Theater Kit (pictured) is a carrier-grade solution for wirelessly playing multiple jitter-free 1080p HD video and audio streams to every room in the house. The Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles delivers Wireless-N performance of up to 300 Mbps through the Ethernet port of consumer electronic (CE) devices such as Internet TVs, game consoles, Blu-ray players and more.

The Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles (WNCE2001) will be available in May at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$79. The High-Performance Wireless-N HD Home Theater Kit will be available in third quarter of the year with pricing for the kit and for single adapters to be announced at the time of market availability.

NetGear has also announced the addition of two next-generation HomePlug AV-certified powerline kits to its family of powerline networking solutions: the compact Powerline AV 500 Adapter Kit and the Powerline AV+ 500 Adapter Kit with a filtered "pass-through" power socket. With speeds of up to 500 Mbps, whole-home coverage and groundbreaking throughput, these new powerline kits are designed to be compatible with the draft international IEEE P1901 powerline standard.

Both powerline kits will be available in Q3 of 2010. Single adapters will be sold separately for customers who want to further expand their powerline networks. Prices for the two-adapter kits and for single adapters will be announced at the time of market availability.

Finally, NetGear has announced the addition of two network storage platforms optimized for storage virtualization applications to its family of ReadyNAS products. With support for up to 500 users, the ReadyNAS 3100 and ReadyNAS 4200 are designed as primary storage solutions for mid-range enterprises and high-performance secondary solutions for larger businesses.

The ReadyNAS 3100 is a 1U 4-bay rack-mountable storage platform that provides up to 8TB of storage capacity in a single system. The ReadyNAS 4200 is a 2U 12-bay rack-mountable storage platform that provides up to 24TB and two redundant drives in a single system. Both are VMware-ready and are unified storage systems powered by the Linux-based ReadyNAS RAIDiator operating system.

The 1U rack-mount ReadyNAS 3100 can come equipped with 4TB or 8TB of storage capacity at an estimated street price starting at $3,800. The 2U ReadyNAS 4200 can come equipped with 12TB or 24TB of storage capacity at an estimated U.S. street price starting at $10,000. Both solutions can be purchased worldwide from NetGear PowerShift Partners as of late April.
