CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 7, 1997 - Roaster Technologies today announced that
its eagerly awaited Roaster Release 3 will include Object Design's
ObjectStore PSE for Java. Roaster, the pioneering Integrated Development
Environment for Java on the Macintosh, has added significant functionality
by tightly integrating ObjectStore PSE into its new release.

Written entirely in Java, ObjectStore PSE for Java is a high-speed,
small-footprint database that provides portable, transparent Java object
persistence. This integration will enable Roaster users to access data from
their Java applications easily, without having to map Java objects to
sequential files or tables. When combined with the ability of Roaster
Release 3 to create stand-alone Java applications, the possibilities
afforded Roaster owners by this integration are limitless.

Developers who use Roaster will have the added bonus that Netscape has
licensed PSE for Java for inclusion in their upcoming Communicator.
Therefore, Roaster developers will be able to write applets that allow
users of Communicator to leverage the distributed computing environment of
the Web.

"This is not a mere bundling of PSE for Java with Roaster, but a level of
integration and ease of use that is unmatched on any platform," said John
Dhabolt, President and CEO of Roaster Technologies. "Partnering with Object
Design and their highly scaleable object database solutions is a very
exciting opportunity which greatly enhances Roaster Release 3. Through
Roaster Release 3's new plug-in compiler technology, we have actually
integrated the PSE for Java post processor directly into our IDE. When
combined with Release 3's new easy to use Libraries folder, it's a snap to
access the power of PSE for Java." Commenting on future implications,
Dhabolt added that "this partnership also signifies the beginning of a
strategy that will see even tighter integration of ObjectStore PSE for Java
in Roaster Release 4 as well as other future Roaster Technologies products."

Bob Goldman, President and CEO at Object Design was equally enthusiastic.
"We are delighted to be working with Roaster Technologies to provide an
important Java object database solution for the Roaster developer
community. This partnership empowers Macintosh Java developers to create
high performance, scaleable database applications that take full advantage
of Java's support for distributed computing."

In addition to licensing ObjectStore PSE for Java, Roaster Technologies
will port Object Design's ObjectStore PSE Pro for Java to the Macintosh and
resell it to Roaster customers. ObjectStore PSE Pro for Java adds advanced
transaction-level recovery and support for multiple databases from a single
application. Roaster's edition of ObjectStore PSE Pro for Java will be
available soon for electronic purchase from a secure commerce server
available on the Roaster Website at www.roaster.com.
