CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 3, 1997 - Roaster Technologies, creators of
Roaster(tm), the flagship Macintosh Integrated Development Environment for
Java, today announced an agreement to license Type 3 100% Pure Java JDBC
(Java Data Base Connectivity) drivers from OpenLink Software for inclusion
in all versions of Roaster. The eagerly awaited upcoming release, Roaster
Release 3, will include OpenLink software, thus immediately enabling
Macintosh developers to start creating applets or applications that access
ODBC compliant databases.

This is the first opportunity for Macintosh users to utilize Java Database
Connectivity in their programming efforts. The inclusion of the JDBC
drivers on Roaster Release 3 thereby gives dramatic impetus toward
application development using Java on the Macintosh.

Roaster will also ship with a specially compiled Java class library
(provided by OpenLink Software) for Netscape Navigator that will allow
Navigator to become "JDBC aware." Therefore, in addition to creating
JDBC-compliant applications from within Roaster, users will be able to run
JDBC-compliant applets from within Navigator.

John Dhabolt, President and CEO of Roaster Technologies was delighted that
these opportunities came 'just in time' for the new release. "Although the
inclusion and incorporation of these drivers did, in fact, delay our
release of Roaster Release 3, we are confident that these additions will
prove well worth the wait. Release 3 will include all of the client-side
Java software necessary to establish Native, or ODBC based connections from
JDBC compliant applications or applets developed within Roaster. In fact,
as soon as Roaster Release 3 is installed on their Macintosh, a developer
with an internet connection can double-click on the stand-alone JDBC test
application that was written in Roaster to see a live connection!"

"We are very excited about this joint venture," said Kingsley Idehen,
President & CEO of OpenLink Software. "Ease of installation and integration
allowed the company to incorporate our technology quickly and effectively
-- within two weeks upon developing this alliance. Roaster's development of
a solution which provides high performance access to corporate, Intranet,
and Internet data sources will be dramatically enhanced by the inclusion of
OpenLink JDBC drivers and WebSQL Java Classes."

technology, please go to http://www.roaster.com/ and

The release of Roaster Release 3 and further special additions will be
announced in a few days.
