[MD1] PagePlanet's MGI 1.4

PagePlanet Software, Inc. announces the release of MGI 1.4 and it's
immediate availability for on-line purchase and free upgrade for existing
owners.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Raleigh, NC (December 16, 1999) PagePlanet Software, Inc., a developer of
software designed to add a host of functionality to all web sites,
announces the release and immediate availability of version 1.4 of its
product, Modular Gateway Interface, or MGI, for the Macintosh Platform.

MGI is a plug-in to StarNine's web server, WebStar, and features a modular
structure that allows for rapid development of new functions, bug fixes,
and custom features that can be added in hours or days rather than weeks or
months.

MGI 1.4, whose product line has been in active development and production
use by thousands of hosted clients for over three years, is the latest in
the series of releases for the commercial product in the past six months.
MGI is fully compatible with System 9 of the Macintosh operating system as
well as the latest release of StarNine's server product, WebStar 4.1

MGI poses no compatibility issues even when used with other host field
mapping products other than the capabilities built into WebStar including
HomeDoor, Welcome, and FireSite.

MGI 1.4 adds a wealth of new functions, extending its E-commerce
capabilities, and includes a number of bug fixes in prior versions. MGI 1.4
also includes a number of new tags and enhancements to existing tags as
requested by current users and prospective purchasers of MGI. For a
complete list of enhancements, please see

http://www.pageplanetsoftware.com/downloads/mgiupdates.html

For a complete list of *ALL* MGI functions, please see

http://www.pageplanetsoftware.com/mgifeatures.html

As a tag-based language, MGI is so easy to use in developing web sites that
no more than a basic knowledge of HTML is necessary to implement its
functions. MGI is specifically designed for use by web designers who
typically have limited to no experience with JavaScript, Perl, Frontier, or
compiled languages like C++. Additionally, all the MGI tags are written in
plain English so there is no confusing maze of acronyms and unusual syntax
for a designer to learn.

At the same time, MGI is powerful enough to allow those with extensive
programming experience a means of easily developing sites based on the
logic of programming without the hazards and hassle of debugging ones code.
MGI 1.4 will allow a web developer to create and install a custom-designed,
non-templated E-Commerce web site that is dynamically driven via MGI's
internal database in several hours or less. Existing users have reported
that the effective learning curve necessary to fully understand MGI and
develop complicated web sites is three to five hours.

A strong point in the decision to investigate MGI as the tool of choice for
any webmaster is MGI's ability to replace a number of different products
costing a combined thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. Since MGI was
developed to satisfy the hosting needs of thousands of clients over three
years, it was developed to include all those varied functions that any
client may need -- all wrapped up in one, neat product where concerns of
software incompatibility disappear. Even so, it is possible to mix the use
of MGI with existing server-side products simply by indicating .mgi as a
valid extension in the WebStar suffix mapping file. In that way, your
legacy systems can continue to function while you either take your time to
convert to MGI or allow new clients and projects to use MGI immediately.

PagePlanet Software in also well into the process of porting MGI to run on
the NT platform and various flavors of UNIX, including Red Hat Linux, as
well as maintaining development for the upcoming MacOS X. As is the
continuing policy of PagePlanet Software, all owners of any version of MGI
1.X will receive a free upgrade to MGI 2.0 upon its anticipated release in
March of 2000.

MGI 1.4 is available for immediate download and purchase at:

http://www.pageplanetsoftware.com

The demo available is a full-functioning version of MGI 1.4 Deluxe for
multi-domain environments and includes a two-hour time out period. All that
is needed to renew the trial period is to quit WebStar and re-lauch the
server; MGI will then run for an additional two hours, and so forth.

MGI 1.4 is available in six different versions priced from $149 to $899
depending on your hosting needs.

Special pricing is available for educational institutions at a 20 percent
discount from the regular retail price.
