Conix Announces OpenGL 1.1 on the Macintosh

Applications made Faster and Smaller with the only OpenGL Modular Libraries
Multiple Graphics Devices Supported

October 28, 1997 (Arlington, TX) Conix Graphics announced today the release
of OpenGL 1.1 for the Macintosh platform. This version boasts a rendering
speed improvement of 25%, with a texture mapping speed increase of 400%
over v1.0!

Conix offers Macintosh developers a proven, reliable 3D graphics API that
is available now.

The Conix libraries come with a complete SDK including GLUT 3.5, TK, AUX,
and hundreds of example source files. Conix also supports multiple graphics
devices. This allows application windows to transition from one monitor to
another smoothly and transparently to the OpenGL API. The OGL libraries
include a plug-in interface for hardware and software vendors. Commercial
vendors will benefit from the series of modular libraries that can slice
memory requirements of applications by up to 50%!

John Stauffer, president of Conix, states that this technology will offer
Macintosh developers a decided advantage in speed and footprint. Conix
offers very affordable distribution for commercial applications.

What Ken Bear (Hash Inc.) says about OpenGL by Conix, "Best of all, the
performance of their (Conix) OpenGL implementation is phenomenal! This is
what real-time 3D is all about. And OpenGL gives us the low level control
that is impossible with QuickDraw3D. It's the only choice when it comes to
a robust real-time 3D implementation on the Macintosh." He further states,
"Porting OpenGL code to the Macintosh was a breeze with the Conix library.
The wgl functions went directly over to agl functions, and Mac specific
changes were very simple. We got our 3D code ported in a matter of days,
and the people at Conix were very prompt and helpful at answering our
questions."

OpenGL is the direct descendant of the IRIS Graphics Library invented by
Silicon Graphics in 1982, and is in use in thousands of 3D applications.
OpenGL assists graphics developers in CAD, Mechanical Implementation,
Architectural Design, Medical and Scientific Imaging, Geophysical Sciences,
Animation, Photorealism, Data Visualization, and Simulation.

OpenGL is the premier 2D and 3D graphics library that allows developers to
build geometric models, view models interactively in 3D space, control
color and lighting, manipulate pixels, and perform such tasks as alpha
blending, anti-aliasing, depth cueing and texture mapping.

John Schimpf, OpenGL Product Manager at Silicon Graphics, Inc. says, "Until
now, the Mac was the lone computer system that did not offer OpenGL
support. Not only has Conix provided a fully-compliant OpenGL
implementation for the Mac but the performance measures up quite nicely."
