[MD1] Objective-Everything Release 5

[MD1] Objective-Everything Release 5

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Objective-Everything Release 5

Bethesda, Maryland. November 24, 1997. Today, TipTop Software, Inc. proudly
announced Release 5 of the Objective-Everything(tm) development system for
OpenStep (Rhapsody, Windows, and Mach), including Objective-Python,
Objective-Tcl, Objective-Perl, and Objective-Browser.

"We are excited to make the Objective-Everything technology widely
available" said Pedja Bogdanovich, TipTop President. "Objective-Everything
is the preeminent scripting solution for Yellow Box. It augments the Yellow
Box development with the power and flexibility of the world's most popular
high-level programming languages."

Objective-Everything provides true language independence for the OpenStep
(Yellow Box) object model. It allows you to develop programs for OpenStep
without being restricted by the lack of expressiveness, class libraries, or
other limitations of a particular programming language. With
Objective-Everything you can use the language best suited for the task at
hand, or even mix-and-match languages! Objective-Everything consists of
Objective-Python, Objective-Tcl, Objective-Perl, and Objective-Browser.

Objective-Everything is an invaluable development tool for anyone who
develops under OpenStep, including programmers who just want to program in
straight Objective-C. Objective-Everything is ideally suited for rapid
application prototyping and development, application scripting, regression
testing, exploratory programming, and much more. Specifically, some of the
uses and benefits of Objective-Everything include:

* Rapid application prototyping and development environment. The
Objective-Everything languages, Objective-Python, Tcl, and Perl, provide an
interactive interpretive environment. You get immediate feedback to all
your programming actions in this environment, so you can prototype and
develop much more rapidly. You can define and redefine classes and methods
on-the-fly, at runtime.

* Exploration and debugging. The dynamic nature of Objective-Everything,
and its powerful runtime introspection capabilities make it an ideal tool
for exploratory programming and debugging.

* Scripting environment. The Objective-Everything runtime library can be
linked with any OpenStep application to provide high-level scripting
control.

* Testing environment. Objective-Everything is ideally suited for
regression testing.

* True language independence. Classes can have mixed implementation;
certain methods can be implemented in Objective-C, other methods can be
implemented in Tcl, yet some other methods can be implemented in Python,
etc. It is transparent and irrelevant to the sender of a message which
language implements the corresponding method---the method looks "native" to
the caller.

* Augment OpenStep with high-level languages, augment high-level languages
with the OpenStep API. Objective-Everything provides Python, Tcl, or Perl
programmers with the full access to the powerful OpenStep API from these
languages. Symmetrically, it augments the OpenStep environment with
powerful high-level languages and associated class libraries.

* Cross-platform portability. Programs developed with Objective-Everything,
run without any porting and recompilation on all OpenStep platforms
(Rhapsody, Windows, Mach).

* Objective-Everything is easy! You will be able to use it to explore the
OpenStep system and build non-trivial apps in no time.

Objective-Browser is a graphical tool which allows you to visualize objects
and object-relations in a running program. This is a *must-have* tool for
all Apple Macintosh developers getting familiar with the OpenStep
development environment!

The browser allows you to view live objects within a running application in
many object-specific ways. OB allows you to easily investigate the
structure and methods of various objects and classes. For example, classes
hierarchy, methods, instance variables, and other object information can be
viewed and *edited* during execution.

OB is extensible. You can provide object-specific browser nodes and custom
inspectors for any object in the system. OB is dynamically loaded on demand
and can be used from any application.
