FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dearborn, MI --May 24, 1999 -- Each year the MacHack software
developers' conference centers all of its commemorative, collectible
materials around a theme. Each year has featured some unique
conference aspect be it a running conference joke or even play on the
conference name.

1998 saw the rise of 'MacHack 13: The Return,' a play on the
conference year and the ASCII code for the control-M (return key).
Previous years have featured the 'Where's Waldemar' classic T-shirt
and the cult of System 7 sacrificing a cartoon chicken to the OS gods.

So what, in this year of rebirth for both the Mac and MacHack, will
arise as the theme? Much ado has been made behind the scenes as the
planning committee mulled this very issue.

"We toyed with alot of ideas," said Jerry Kindall, chairman of
conference look-and-feel. "When we took a look, though, we realized
that no other conference runs continuously for 72 hours. MacHack
never sleeps."

A great idea was born! "MacHack: Open 72 Hours" became the mantra of
the designers of this year's theme art. Looking both back for
inspiration and forward to the future of software development, this
year's theme captures the spirit of the streamlined diners of the
1940s and 1950s with the same quirky flare that has made MacHack
famous.

The art for the conference commemorative coffee mug is available for
viewing on the conference website (http://www.machack.com/). The
T-shirt art will be kept under wraps until the conference itself
opens for business on June 23.

There's still plenty of time to register, simply go to the conference
web site and register either via the secure online form or via the
snail mail form. Conference registration includes meals and full
access to all conference events. See the web site for full
information.

The MacHack planning committee is putting the final touches on the
overall conference plan which can be examined at the conference
website (http://www.machack.com/).

MacHack, in its fourteenth year, remains centered around cutting edge
software development. Each year the conference brings together
well-known names in the software business, as well as many students
and upstarts whose names we'll know soon enough, and fosters
interaction between all of the attendees. MacHack's uniqueness
derives from the informal feel and the LIVE coding that occurs
around-the-clock during the conference.

MacHack 1999 will take place June 23-26 in Dearborn, Michigan.
