[MD1] Java-based "Colada" for Canvas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Deneba Unveils Colada(tm) - a Java(tm)-based Web Technology for Canvas(tm) 5

With Colada, Canvas 5 users can create pixel-perfect web pages instantly

Miami, FL, September 9, 1997. - Deneba announced that it will be releasing
a new Java-based technology named "Colada," which gives Canvas 5 users the
ability to create web pages quickly and easily.

"Colada allows Canvas 5 users to publish complete, multi-page designs,
directly to the web," said Manny Menendez, president of Deneba Software.
"If you can create it in Canvas 5, you can use Colada to publish it on the
web with pixel-level precision. This is something HTML-only authoring
solutions don't do."

Colada is a one-step solution for creating visually appealing, intricate
web pages. Being Java-based, it is cross-platform and compatible with all
modern browsers, without forcing viewers to download and install a browser
plug-in first. Even non-Java browsers can display Colada pages accurately,
through proxy documents Colada creates automatically for every page.
Because all page design takes place within the familiar Canvas environment,
URL management is simple and intuitive. Hyperlinks can be assigned to any
object or text selection and can contain links to other pages within a
Canvas publication, to traditional HTML pages, or to external links at
remote web sites.

"What's most appealing about Colada is that you no longer have to contend
with the many limitations found in other HTML authoring programs," said
Joaquin de Soto, C.E.O. of Deneba Software. "By using Colada, Canvas users
can actually shorten the learning curve of HTML design without sacrificing
the power."

Powerful features not seen in other HTML authoring programs include: the
ability to anti-alias text and objects to create smooth edges; combine
vector objects, raster images, and text in any layout; and import GIF,
JPEG, TIFF, and other raster and vector formats. Colada pages are saved in
a highly-optimized hybrid (vector/raster) format, ideal for
bandwidth-sensitive applications. Compared to equivalent graphical HTML
pages, Colada web pages can enjoy smaller footprints and shorter download
times. Colada might just be the solution traditional media designers have
been waiting for - virtually universal, effortless compatibility without
the limitations of HTML.

Using Deneba's pioneering Open-Architecture "plug-in" tool technology,
Colada can be added easily to both the Mac(tm) OS and Windows(tm) 95/NT(tm)
versions of Canvas 5.0.2. The Colada tools, which are in the beta testing
stage, can be downloaded from Deneba's web site (www.deneba.com).
