INSIDER UPDATES 2 NOW AVAILABLE
SIGNIFICANT FUNCTIONALITY AND IMPROVED INTERFACE ADDED TO MACINTOSH
SOFTWARE UPDATER

Insider Software today announced the availability of Insider Updates 2, a
release that adds significant functionality and usability features to the
leading Macintosh software-updating product. The new version uses smarter
approaches for both determining which updaters users need to bring their
Macintosh software up-to-date with the most current developer releases, as
well as improved methods for determining when new updaters become available
on the Internet. Insider Updates 2 is fully compatible with MacOS 8 and
Internet fire-walls.

DEVELOPERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT NEW UPDATERS
Developers can go to https://insidertwo.theinside.com/newupdater.html and
specify information for their new updaters. This gets the updater out to
the developer's customers as fast as possible. The secure site is available
24 hours a day. All submtted information is verified before release.

NEW RELEASE IDENTIFIES APPLICATIONS AND VERSIONS MORE EFFECTIVELY
The new release of Insider Updates analyzes more information to determine
the target application for which a specific updater is intended. This new
functionality enables Insider Updates to deliver updaters for more
programs, as well as differentiate between programs having non-unique
Creator and Type codes, such as plug-ins. Insider Updates 2 also avoids
downloading updaters for older versions if multiple releases of the same
software are installed. In addition, Insider Updates 2 ignores alias files
that could previously trigger the delivery of non-applicable updaters.
"We've had to learn a great deal about how individual software developers
create and categorize their updaters," remarked Rio Sabadicci, president of
Insider Software. "Insider Updates 2 passes all that intelligence on to our
customers so they benefit from our experiences and enjoy hassle-free
updating."

NEW INTERFACE IMPROVES CLARITY AND USABILITY
Insider Updates 2 sports a new, improved interface that not only adds
significant ease-of-use, but also gives users a great deal of control and
flexibility in specifying which software updaters they want to download.
Users can now tell Insider Updates to scan specific drives as it determines
what software products need updating, or to skip the scanning process and
to use the set of products it discovered during previous scans. Once it
determines a list of relevant updaters, Insider Updates 2 presents a
display similar to the Macintosh Extensions Manager that permits users to
select updaters to download by checking boxes. The display also sorts the
updaters into groups that help users determine which updaters they want.
The sorted groups include newly discovered updaters, updaters the user
previously chose to skip, updaters already downloaded, and updaters that
previously failed to download correctly. Insider Updates 2 uses disclosure
triangles -- like those used in the Finder -- to simplify the display of
lengthy lists of updaters. After specifying which updaters they want, users
can now specify a folder where they want Insider Updates to place all
downloaded updaters.

BEHIND THE SCENES: INSIDER UPDATES NEVER RESTS
Insider Software works behind the scenes to discover new updaters as soon
as they become available. Insider deployed a new web crawler' that
constantly explores over 2,000 Macintosh developer sites for new updaters.
When it discovers a new one, Insider categorizes the updater and readies it
for downloading to users. "We really go the extra distance to make sure our
updater repository is current and complete," commented Sabadicci. "And we
don't waste users' time pointing them to various sites all over the Web to
get their updaters."

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Insider Updates 2 is available for immediate download from Insider
Software's web site at www.theInside.com, as well as from many Mac-centric
web sites, and America Online. After downloading Insider Updates, users can
run it to determine which updates they need to bring their Macintosh
current, as well as update their Apple system software at no charge. To
update their third-party application software, utilities, Control Panels,
and Extensions, users pay $7 per month or $79.95 for a full year.

ABOUT INSIDER UPDATES
Insider Updates is the leading Internet-based software update program that
automatically delivers all the necessary software updates to a Macintosh
computer. Instead of visiting various Web sites and tediously comparing
software version numbers to get updaters, Insider Updates compares users'
installed software with available updaters from over 2,000 Macintosh
developers and automatically downloads all the relevant updaters from
Insider's high-speed internet servers. The program can be scheduled to run
automatically during non-business hours. Insider Updates does not transmit
any information about the users' computer and does not automatically
install updaters.
