FileMaker Server 5 Now Available from FileMaker, Inc.

Powerful database hosting software more than doubles number of FileMaker
Pro 5 clients, increases number of files, and adds new easy-to-use
administration GUI on Mac and Windows NT Servers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - November 29, 1999 - FileMaker, Inc. announced the
immediate availability of FileMaker Server 5 (Worldwide English version), a
powerful software application for hosting FileMaker Pro 5 databases.

With increased FileMaker database hosting for up to 250 FileMaker Pro
database clients (previously 100) and 125 open FileMaker Pro 5 files,
FileMaker Server 5 meets the database needs of any workgroup for fast,
secureable and scalable FileMaker Pro database hosting. The estimated U.S.
retail price of FileMaker Server 5 is $999, and volume pricing is available
under FileMaker volume license programs. Upgrades from prior versions of
FileMaker Server are available at $499 (estimated retail price U.S).

"Workgroups want to quickly organize and share their data, over the Web and
via the network. The new FileMaker Server 5 is a key part of our new
product line to give workgroups the widest options for creating and
deploying databases," said FileMaker, Inc. president Dominque Goupil.

Beta Customers Praise FileMaker Server 5 Beta users are singing the praises
of FileMaker Server 5:

"Having a single server that can host 125 files makes it easier for our
remote WAN users to gain access to our internal databases," says Andy
Knasinski, IT Manager at JDTV, Inc., a publishing company based in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "Rather than having multiple workstations hosting
databases throughout our company, these remote users can access through a
single, constant host. The ability to host single user files (with the new
single user hosting mode) is also a huge benefit; databases can be taken
off-line for modifications without worrying about users connecting to
development computers for resource access."

"FileMaker Server 5 is a major factor in what makes a solution work for a
company," comments Craig Schlossberg, President, Image Info, a major
digital imaging firm serving the fashion apparel industry in New York City.
"The new administration tools and preferences on opening and closing files
are a boon for our support staff. Also the built-in backup on the NT
platform allows us to better control extremely important backups."

FileMaker Server 5 delivers the following new features and benefits:
Increased network performance:
Reduced network traffic and improved guest performance. Processes multiple
tasks simultaneously with multi-threading and asynchronous disk I/O.

Automate and centralize backups:
Automate FileMaker Pro database backups to secure data changes while
allowing guests to remain connected to the databases at the same time.

Scalable deployment:
Supports up to 250 simultaneous FileMaker Pro 5 guests (124 simultaneous
AppleTalk network guests) simultaneously and up to 125 hosted files per
server.

Auto disconnect idle guests:
Guests who have been logged into a file for an extended time can be
automatically disconnected when they are idle for a set period of time.

Plug and play deployment:
FileMaker Server 5 integrates seamlessly with existing FileMaker Pro 5
database solutions. Users already running FileMaker Pro 5 do not have to
change or upgrade their solutions to work with FileMaker Server 5 - just
plug and play.

Compatibility:
By using the same file formats, FileMaker Server 5 supports FileMaker Pro 5
guests simultaneously on Windows 95/98 and NT as well as systems running
Mac OS. Cross-platform support for TCP/IP means unequaled ease of
deployment in mixed platform environments.

Remote Administration:
Enhanced remote database administration function allows an administrator to
keep track of users and files on the network, check workload levels, and
monitor and review network file operation. Using the Server Administration
plug-in, administrators can also remotely open and close files, send
messages, and disconnect guests.

Preferred IP addressing:
Allows users to choose the preferred IP address for FileMaker Server 5
communications if there are several IP addresses available.

Host single user files:
Developers and administrators can work on the database files in single-user
mode and FileMaker Server 5 can be set to automatically host the files.

Cache flush:
Protect valuable data by setting exactly when FileMaker Server 5 will write
the data in RAM to disk.

Exact file content match support:
Support for the exact field content match find criteria in FileMaker Pro 5.
