METROWERKS LAUNCHES CODEWARRIOR 11 HOSTED ON MAC OS

CodeWarrior 11 Includes Improved Java Support and New CodeWarrior IDE,
Version 2 Alpha

SAN FRANCISCO, California, Macworld Expo--January 7, 1997--Metrowerks Inc.
(NASDAQ: MTWKF, TSE/ME:MWK), one of the world's leading providers of
software development tools, today announced CodeWarrior 11, the newest
version of its award-winning programming tools hosted on Mac OS computers.

CodeWarrior 11, hosted on Mac OS, allows users to develop applications in
C, C++, Object Pascal and Java for four operating systems: Mac OS,
Win95/NT, Magic Cap OS and PowerTV OS, all hosted in the same intuitive
CodeWarrior integrated development environment ("IDE"). CodeWarrior's
modular, front-end/back-end architecture offers true cross-platform
compiling, thus making it easier to port applications from one operating
system to another. CodeWarrior 11 includes a host of new features, improved
Java support and an alpha version of the new Version 2.0 of the CodeWarrior
IDE.

New Features
CodeWarrior 11 includes a host of new features including:

1. Increased Object Pascal Support - CodeWarrior 11 features two new Object
Pascal compilers: (i) a new Object Pascal cross-compiler for x86
microprocessors, allowing developers to build Windows 95/NT applications
using Object Pascal; and (ii) a new MPW Object Pascal compiler for
developers using Apple's MPW development environment.

2. ActiveX Support - CodeWarrior 11 includes an early release of ActiveX
support in Metrowerks' application framework, PowerPlant, which will allow
users to build ActiveX components on Mac OS systems using PowerPlant.

3. Version Control Support - CodeWarrior 11 includes a new VCS interface
in the CodeWarrior IDE thereby allowing programming teams to access source
code control systems, such as Metrowerks CodeManager, directly from the
development environment.

New Java Support
CodeWarrior 11 features the final release of Metrowerks' PowerPC Java
Just-in-time ("JIT") compiler, as well as an early release of Metrowerks'
68K Java JIT compiler. JIT compilers convert entire applications written in
Java into native machine code at runtime and thus significantly increase
the speed of applications when they are executed. This compares to
existing Java bytecode interpreters which translate Java applications one
program line at a time when Java applications are executed. Java JIT
compilers increase the speed of Java applications 5-20 times.

Additionally, version 11 includes a final release of a PowerPC-native Java
compiler. Written in C to run native on a PowerPC host, this new Java
compiler, which converts source code written in Java into Java bytecode,
runs up to ten times faster than the previous versions of the compiler
written in Java.

CodeWarrior 11 also includes Metrowerks' Class Wrangler which now allows
users to disassemble Java ZIP library files into bytecodes for the
contained classes, and supports manipulation of Java class and ZIP files.

New Version 2.0 Alpha CodeWarrior IDE
The new CodeWarrior IDE features a multi-target build system and is fully
threaded. The new CodeWarrior Project Manager includes full support for
multiple targets and nested projects, making CodeWarrior builds of complex
applications comprised on different executables, such as INITs, CDEVs, and
fat binaries a one-step process. The new IDE is threaded and allows
compilation, editing and browsing to operate concurrently.

Pricing and Availability
CodeWarrior 11 hosted on Mac OS is available from Metrowerks authorized
distributors for a suggested price of US$399. CodeWarrior Academic Pro 11,
the academic version of CodeWarrior 11, is available from Metrowerks
authorized distributors for a suggested price of US$119. Registered users
receive two free updates in May and September 1997, and free technical
support. International versions of CodeWarrior are available localized for
the following languages and character sets: French, German, Spanish,
Brazilian-Portuguese, traditional and simplified Chinese, Kanji and Korean.
