BBEDIT NOW AVAILABLE VIA ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION FROM SOFTWARE.NET
-New resale agreement means customers can get BBEdit anytime, anywhere

Bedford, MA--March 12, 1998--Bare Bones Software, Inc. today announced
their entry into the electronic distribution (ESD) channel. BBEdit, the
company's award-winning text and HTML editor, is now available for purchase
and download through Software.net. BBEdit is listed in the Web Authoring
Tools section of the Internet Center.

"We are continually looking for better ways to get our products into the
hands of our customers," said Rich Siegel, founder, president & CEO. "We've
wanted to do electronic delivery for a long time, and we believe that
Software.net offers the best way for us to accomplish that goal."

Bare Bones Software anticipates electronic delivery of its products will be
an effective supplement to its relationships with traditional resellers,
and continues to offer the standard physical package via its direct sales
channels, as well as through resellers. The company expects that ESD will
be particularly useful to customers located outside of the continental
United States.

The package delivered by Software.net contains the BBEdit application and
supporting files (including the BBEdit Table Builder, HTML Tools, and the
user manual in PDF format). Registered customers may obtain alternatively
formatted documentation for A4 letter size printing or viewing on screen
from Bare Bones Software's Web site.

Pricing & Availability

The suggested retail price for BBEdit 4.5 is US$119.00. The ESD package may
be purchased directly from Software.net (http://www.software.net/) for
US$99.00. Customers who obtain BBEdit electronically from Software.net may
purchase physical media (CD-ROM and printed manual) directly from Bare
Bones Software for an additional charge. For more information, contact the
company's sales department at 781-687-0700 or via email
(mailto:sales@barebones.com). A valid Software.net license certificate will
be required to purchase the physical package.

The full, boxed version of BBEdit is also available for the same $99 price
through DevDepot (http://www.devdepot.com),
mailto:orders@devdepot.com, Toll free: 800-MACDEV-1, Outside US/Canada:

BBEdit Overview

BBEdit is the premier text and HTML editor for the MacOS. Version 4.5
brought the addition of the BBEdit Table Builder, a graphical tool for
creating and editing even complex, nested HTML tables. This tool offers an
excellent implementation of graphical control over the sizing and re-sizing
of cells and options for cell-merging, cell color selection and more,
giving the user maximum design flexibility.

The BBEdit Table Builder is integrated with BBEdit itself, putting forth
the most powerful and robust solution available for Web authors who wish to
combine the convenience of a graphical approach with the ability to
fine-tune their HTML.

BBEdit's core HTML tools were also updated and enhanced in version 4.5. In
addition to functional and interface refinements, the new tools feature the
ability to control HTML authoring preferences via AppleScript and other
OSA-compatible scripting environments. This feature provides flexibility
which is necessary for professional Web authors, who routinely need to
manage multiple Web sites.

All BBEdit users will appreciate other improvements found in version 4.5,
like the increased search string capacity (now 4,096 characters) and
improved 'grep' pattern storage.
