Apple's Mac OS 9 To Hit Store Shelves This Weekend

CUPERTINO, California--Oct. 22, 1999--Apple announced today that Mac OS 9,
the major new release of the Macintosh operating system featuring 9
Internet power tools, will hit U.S. store shelves in volume this weekend,
carrying a suggested retail price of $99. Mac OS 9 features Sherlock 2, the
Internet's most advanced search and shopping tool. Sherlock 2 is the
ultimate search engine for news and people, plus the perfect personal
shopper on the Internet, letting users find products, compare prices and
availability, and even participate in auctions.

"Mac OS 9 is the best Internet OS ever," said Steve Jobs, Apple's interim
CEO. "With great new features like Sherlock 2, we think our customers are
going to love Mac OS 9."

Apple Authorized Resellers are holding special Mac OS 9 "Midnight Madness"
events, Apple Demo Days and in-store promotions throughout the weekend.
Participating retailers include CompUSA, Computer Base, Computer Haus,
Computer Stores Northwest, Computer Town, ComputerWare, Datavision, Elite
Computers, First Tech, Fry's, Ireland Technologies, J&R Computer World,
MacMall, Micro Center, RCS, Superior Bay, Technology Associates, The
Computer Store, The Learning Center, and nearly 300 Sears stores throughout
the U.S.

Mac OS 9 will be available through Apple Authorized Resellers, The Apple
Store (www.apple.com) and many software retailers for a suggested retail
price of U.S. $99. Apple will offer a $20 rebate on the purchase of Mac OS
9 to customers who currently own Mac OS 8.5 or Mac OS 8.6. For more
